Song Description

A woman who's lived through cancer decides to dive back into life again, inspired by the innocence and daring she remembers feeling as a girl.

Story Behind the Song

We wrote this song for all the women who have faced and fought breast cancer, struggling to remain hopeful and strong. This song is a tribute to women who embrace and get on with life, daring to remember what it feels like to be young and innocent, even after facing death.

Broadjam Member Reviews

Singer has a REALLY cool voice! I'm a huge fan of ambient pop, and I love when organic instruments are mixed with modern production techniques. This song really does grab me...I think I'm a new fan! :-) I can't pass on the opportunity to say this is the best SOUNDING thing I've reviewed on Broadjam - this is high-praise considering how far indie recordings have come in the last 5 years. Also, the song has been over for awhile, and I can still sing back the hook.

Nice harmonies, and like the distant percussion contrasting with a conventional beat later on. Also, the flourishes of piano are nice. Think the vocal could be a little higher in mix, such as when the song drops down around 2:45. Going back to the echoey beat works well, but I wasn't sure about dropping down to just voice and guitar, only to have just a few bars of percussion again - I might be tempted to keep the percussion in through to the end. Prior to that, the song builds well, and has a catchy refrain to carry it. Just a couple of thoughts on an excellent song that I enjoyed :)

Lyrics

I'm Not Waiting
Copyright Tom & Mary Erangey November 2011

It's two a.m. I'm staring down a dark road
Something new is calling me
I toss my wig, sail it out the window
Done with pink, now I'm free

Looking back at a girl from long ago
Tossing her long brown hair
I smile and whisper, 'Go on, take the wheel'
Just drive us anywhere

CHORUS:
I'm not waiting for the time to feel right
Never get there if I don't start out tonight
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting for...the rest of my life

Ten a.m. I'm humming my favorite song
Seeing clearer with every mile
I'm hungry again for coffee and bacon
Like I haven't been in awhile

Bruises, bandaids, the trophies of a tomboy
Happy was so easy then
Scars are red, but an apple still tastes sweet
Falling into life again

CHORUS:
I'm not waiting for the time to feel right
Never get there if I don't start out tonight
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting for...the rest of my life
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting for...the rest of my life

[Music bridge]

CHORUS:
I'm not waiting for the time to feel right
Never get there if I don't start out tonight
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting
I'm just not waiting for...the rest of my life
