Angelica's Room

Story Behind The Song

This song was inspired by news of teen suicide. I started to think if something like that happened to a best friend - one whom I had lost contact with, and the guilt over feeling I could have made a difference if I had not lost touch.

Song Description

A visual, story song. Teen suicide. Loss. Sorrow. the sadness and sorrow of a boy losing a former female good friend to suicide (or maybe some accident or terminal illness) and the associated guilt. This song is NOT about the title character. That character is imagined as a little or older sister or good friend.

Lyrics

It's been a while since all of us met
Playing your favorite tune on cassette and I know
We're here for what we all regret
Splatter the paint on Angelica's room
Hopefully she doesn't notice too soon that it's red
Maybe she will just forget

And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
Your car was parked on the street too long
And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
I wanted you to know yesterday was so

Young kids they flirt but then grow up fast
And you realize that it's all in the past and it makes
Makes you want to go back
I don't meant to be rude I forgot how to smile
The way that we did when we walked down the aisle
In our heads remembering times as a child

And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
Your car was parked on the street too long
And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
I wanted you to know yesterday was so

I'm sorry for what I said
The closure that we never had
Now I sleep in my bed
Demanding why it ever got so bad
And when you look down on me
Will you promise to
Forget who I once was
And know me for who I'll be

And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
Your car was parked on the street too long
And I tried to tell you
Cuz I wanted you to know
I wanted you to know yesterday was so blue, so blue, blue
Yesterday was so blue, blue, blue
Maybe I soon will see you
Tomorrow starts over brand new
Tomorrow starts over
Starts over brand new
