Vo.X Bio

Twice nominated for the British Gospel Music Awards (2003 and 2004), pop-rock duo Vo.X ("vox" as "voice" in Latin or "Volume X") is currently Aram and Gaya Rian, two Armenian singers-songwriters with a solid experience of more than 15 years both in creative and stage work, as well as a massive stock of nearly 1000 songs and 3 musical dramas (90% of their material being in English). What distinguishes their compositions is the sheer sincerity and unsparing straightforwardness of their lyrics merged with the bright melodic harmonies of the tunes.

Their first project was "Passions of Cain", a rock drama about the truth quest of a rebel (a modern interpretation of Lord Byron's "Cain" and the Cain vs Abel biblical story), recorded in 1999 in Armenia.

In 2000, the couple moved to Great Britain, where they recorded and released an experimental album "Hand On The Plough" about the spiritual pilgrimage of a Christian, which they endowed with an evident autobiographical colouring. The album featured 10 acoustically revised versions of some of Aram and Gaya Rian's old hits and new compositions.

In 2003, one of the "Hand On The Plough" tracks, "No Matter", made Vo.X nominees for the British Music Awards in the category of Best Gospel Group, Another composition from the same album, "Gone With The Wind", brought them the same nomination for the second time in 2004. Both songs were regularly airplayed by all the local BBC radiostations all over the UK.

Originally formed as a Gospel/Christian Rock band, Vo.X had gone mainstream by January 2006. This was marked by the completion of their new non-religious album "Lifewise", which received positive feedback from some of the representatives of the British music industry. As critics put it, "stylistically diverse (from hard rock and Beatles-like motives to blues and symphony), melodically refined (there are practically no "accidental" hit-or-miss songs) and instrumentally lush (rich orchestrations blended with electric or acoustic guitars and piano) - this album is a collection of 10 brand new songs and one classic ("Mum's Blues") from Aram Rian's repertoire, dedicated to human relations, everyday joys and sorrows, London and freedom..."

The duet is currently back in Yerevan, Armenia, actively introducing all the past UK-born material to the Armenian public, as well as establishing themselves as a completely new music trend in the country's music industry.

Vo.X call a spade a spade through heartfelt songs that speak of daily human life in the most realistic way, promoting such high values as true friendship, honesty, openness, kindness, as well as tackling such commonplace issues as loneliness, depression, bitterness and alienation both in church and the society.
