Formed in 2002, The Emeralds are a 3-piece Rock 'n' Roll band from Yokohama, Japan. With their charismatic guitarist/vocalist Kazuya, their aggressive bassist Osuke, and their hottest drummer Akio, The Emeralds have impressed audiences both in their native Japan and abroad. With respect to the Rock 'n' Roll giants of the 70s and 80s, The Emeralds perform solid rock music with lighting fast vocals and high energy. The Emeralds formed at the beginning of 2002 and had their first live show in April of that year. With their signature song "Talk About Love", the band began to gain media attention from Break Gate TV and FM Yokohama. During this period The Emeralds began to develop their visual image and gain inspiration and advice from interactions with other bands and media personalities.

In April and November The Emeralds performed at Design Festa, an international art event held twice a year at Tokyo Big Site. Here The Emeralds has their first exposure to international audiences and realized that rock 'n' roll was a universal language. Later they went to see one of their favorite bands, the girl punk band Bleach 03, play an event sponsored by SXSW-Asia. There were SXSW applications at the club and The Emeralds decided to apply.

Unexpectedly the band was accepted to perform at SXSW despite being an unknown artist. The Emeralds performed at the famous Japan Nite showcase for their first show abroad. Upon their return to Japan, the band discovered they were being played on WRAS Atlanta, the first of many radio stations abroad to play the band. "Talk About Love", The Emeralds first mini album, was released this year and they began to increase their number of live performances in Japan.

The Emeralds returned to SXSW for the second year in a row and participated in the "Japan Girls Nite US Tour" that followed after the festival. They were one of the few male bands on the tour. In October they were invited to perform at NEMO in Boston and took the opportunity to perform a show in New York City on the same day. From that came the invitation from New York based Japanese punk band Peelander-Z to join them on a short post-Halloween tour. Thus, The Emeralds returned to the U.S. for the third time that year to play shows in Austin and San Antonio before joining Peelander-Z to play in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York. In Japan, the band released the single "Surfing Baby" and had the chance to play a show with Guitar Wolf as the secret opening act. They also performed at Minami Wheel for the first time in Osaka, a festival with a structure like SXSW.

The Emeralds were once again invited to play SXSW as well as perform as part of the Japan Nite Tour. Here the band became known for their crazy endurance, playing three shows in one day during SXSW. In September, a friend who worked at TV Yokohama arranged for The Emeralds to perform in Korea for the first time. They performed at the Ssamzie Sound Festival in Seoul in front of over 20, 000 people. They also appeared at Minami Wheel for the second year in a row and had their 100th show at Shinjuku Marz in December.

Before returning to SXSW for the fourth year in a row, the band had a chance to play in Canada for the first time as part of Canadian Music Week. After another successful Japan Nite Tour, The Emeralds increased their touring in Japan, playing constantly in Yokohama, Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. In September they toured the southeast United Stated for the first time, including a performance at Anime Weekend Atlanta. The Emeralds continued to break language barriers with the common language of happiness: rock 'n' roll. The band then began to work on recording their first full length album.

After several years of playing new songs live, the band recorded their first full length album "Love Is Rolling" in time to be sold at SXSW and Japan Nite. Officially, the album was released in the U.S. in August of 2008 by Australian Cattle God Records, and in October by Yokohama Columbia in Japan and by Mirror Ball Music in Korea. In April the band performed in Hawaii for the first time at Kawaii Kon and in September returned to the U.S. to play once again at Anime Weekend Atlanta and in San Antonio.
