Years after “breaking free” from Wisconsin, and following the debut of her first self-titled CD, New York-based singer/songwriter Katy Pfaffl released her second album, As She Stands, October 2003. Katy Pfaffl (pronounced “fah-full”), was titled Artist of the Month in Independent Songwriter magazine this past year and achieved third place in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Songwriting Contest in Colorado this summer. With a “voice that's nothing short of awesome” ” (Indie-Music.com), and her ability to accompany herself and improvise with piano, guitar, violin, Katy Pfaffl is a unique female musician of this generation. Often quoted as the “Joni Mitchell of this millennium”, Katy has created her own genre of music: Acoustic Soul-Folk. Katy’s original vocal compositions embody the moody tenderness of Norah Jones, the gutsy fearlessness of Ani DiFranco and the musical integrity of Stevie Wonder. Bio

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Katy Pfaffl grew up as a classical musician. She began studying Suzuki violin at age 6, piano at age 12 and by the age of 13 she was competing as a serious classical pianist throughout the Midwest. By the time college came around, she had taken a strong interest in composition for orchestra and choir, in addition to becoming a Downbeat Award winning jazz vocalist. Katy attended the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music for two years and then moved to New York to begin her life dream of becoming a professional performer. She took her first steps by working all over Manhattan as a singer/pianist/violinist performing regularly with the band SWIM, all the while earning a reputation locally as the therapeutic voice teacher and vocal coach she is to this day. Striving for musical freedom and in search of her own voice, she taught herself the guitar which began her journey into the local singer/songwriter scene.

It has only been a year and a half since Katy began performing her music in New York, and within that time, she has proven to be a shining, confident performer who sings and feels each story as if it was the first time ever told. Her youth and beauty are only additions to her immense talent and musicianship which is impossible to ignore.
