Enzo Maddalena

Like Dave, Enzo started out on drums at an early age. He went on to be a member of the band Pony Express (later renamed Kid Lonesome), signing record deals with Liberty Records and Warner Brothers. After years of touring with a lot of ups and even more downs, he came off the road and started a succesful disaster recovery business. But the music still called him, and in '03 he reacquainted himself with his old bandmate Dave to start writing songs again.

Dave has been interested in music ever since he discovered at age four that a folded-up toy Disney trainset sounded like a snare drum when you beat on it. Since then he's become an accomplished keyboard player, earned a degree in Music Composition, played extensively in local bands, spent a stint in the military and started a family. His musical interests run far and wide, as does his life experiences.

Big Hat Music is a songwriting duo consisting of longtime friends and former bandmates Dave Drotos and Enzo Maddalena. Combining stong hooks with humanistic story-telling, their music plays in the contemporary vein, drawing on influences ranging from Paul McCartney and Carol King to Tom Shapiro and Jeffrey Steele. Above all, it's honest - stories that you can identify with, scenes that play familiar yet fresh and distinct. Since the project was formed in '03, they've been to Nashville to record their songs with some of the finest musicians in the business, including Larry Beaird (2003 CMA Nominee, Country Guitarist of the Year), Steve Turner, Mike Brignardello and others.
