Lyrics

CALIFORNIA CHRISTMAS

Salvation Army bells are ringin on these Los Angeles streets

And shoppers at the Galleria spend their money; hurt their feet

And Santa's in his castle, He's been there since early fall.

And they've got a Ponderosa pine, looks a thousand feet tall.

I've got a one-room apartment on Fountain Avenue
Today I met one of my neighbors, in a whole year that makes - two.
Got a day job and co-workers, but when we go out for a drink
We don't get to know each other, cuz we don't say what we really think

It's a California Christmas. Blowup snowmen on the lawns

Warm and balmy breezes, Wafting Christmas songs (from every store)

Colored lights in my window, the poinsettias are in bloom

It's a California Christmas.

But it's lonely in my room.

They brought in snow for the children today at Griffith Park
And it lasted till the sun went down round 5 o'clock
Children came with cardboard boxes, plastic sheets and trashcan lids
Screams and giggles on the hillside on makeshift sleds.

Back home my friends will gather and call me on the phone.
And I will lie and say I'm fine, though I'm out here on my own.
Came to LA for my dreams, but when we reach this time of year
I gaze out at these LA streets and doubt my dreams are here
Or ever were....
