While BBKS plays some of your favorite praise and worship songs, the music is deeply rooted in blues, jazz and even classic rock styles. BBKS is known to get into the "groove", feel the spirit and take off into spontaneous improvisation at any moment!

Blues Best Kept Secret Biography

Monte & Sandy B:

Monte and Sandy have performed together for the past 19 years. They have been married for 17 years. They have performed both as an acoustic duo and in various bands during that time. They have also provided DJ services in the past. The couple also believes in giving back to their community and donates their musical talents to their church on Sundays. They also don't take themselves too seriously and have fun playing music!

Monte and Sandy’s latest project is called Blue's Best Kept Secret. They released the What Secret? CD in July 2006. A Christmas Cd will be released in October 2006

Sandy B:

Sandy took voice lessons and began singing as a child. She has won a number of vocal contest including the IN State Choir Association Regional Solo and Ensemble competition six consecutive years and won the State competition during her jr. and sr. years. Sandy was also a member of the International Thespians during high school and performed in musicals during that time. She sang by invitation at a number of events including a campaign dinner for IN Governor Bayh. During high school, Sandy studied under Richard Howell. Mr. Howell was a studio musician during the early 1970’s and was involved in recording sessions with the rock group Chicago. Sandy also performed in madrigal groups and in the musical Godspell.

Sandy received her Associates Degree from Vincennes University and was involved in musical performance during that time.

Sandy sang with the rock band Citadel and with the Dave Parmen Group during the 1980’s. Dave Parmen was a former member of John Mellencamp’s band and played bass, guitar and arranged the music in John’s band during the late 1970’s. Sandy also sang with the Blues Associates during the 1990’s and Blues Best Kept Secret during the 2000’s. Sandy & Monte also performed as a duo throughout this time.

Sandy sings at churches, weddings, funerals, special events and by invitation.

Monte B:

Monte has been playing guitar for 27 years. He also plays bass and mandolin. He played lead guitar and sang in the Scat Band and The Blues Associates during the 1990’s. Both of these groups played clubs, wedding receptions and private parties in the Cincinnati, OH area. Prior to that, Monte performed in bands in the Southwestern IN region, including Windfall, during the 1980’s.

Monte attended Musician’s Institute in Hollywood CA. in 1984. He attended Vincennes University (VU) and earned a BSdegree in Environmental Health from Indiana State University in 1992. During his collegiate years Monte continued to be active in music. He completed several music courses including music theory. He also studied and performed with VU music professor and former member of John Mellencamp’s band, Dave Parmen. Monte played in the Blues, Jazz, and Bluegrass Ensembles. Monte also performed in Godspell. In 1989, the Blues Ensemble competed and won the University Battle of The Bands contest. Monte also performed in the 2004 Sinclair Community College Jazz Combo, lead by Dayton Jazz legend, Eddie Brookshire (http://www.jazzadvocate.com/Henkes%20Column/Jazz%20Scene%20060204.htm) .

Monte has also played in groups with music business veterans John Ferris and Dave Parmen. John played with keys and wood instruments with the progressive rock band Zepher during the 1970’s. Zepher recorded on both the ABC and Warner Brothers labels. Zepher also featured Tommy Bolin who played guitar for both Deep Purple (from 1974 to 1976) and The James Gang in 1974.

Monte has taught guitars lessons at Davis Music (IN), Conservatory of Music (IN), and at his residence.

Monte recorded a CD with the Scat Band, was a guest guitarist on singer/songwriter, KIP Peck’s second CD project and recorded with with several of Dave Parmen's Ensemble Groups.
