Greetings once again, Mr. Budos. Saluting you from Zacatecas city, México, i would like to tell you that four years after listening to "The Passing Of A Black Star" i realize i wouldn't have become a classical guitarist if i had not heard this piece. It inspired me in so many different ways, and the timbre of the guitar is even "theatrical" to my ears, so i thank you deeply and hugely, the inspiration you gave me and that started my career as a classical guitarist. (4 years since i started, what a coincidence, hehe) Greetings, take care
Hi Javier, What a nice message to receive! Thank you. I am so glad to hear that you are playing classical guitar and that my music inspired you to pick up the instrument. ðŸ'‚ That is wonderful! Good luck with everything. And let me know if you would like a copy of the score as a reminder of your starting classical guitar. All the very best. Marián
Thanks on the reply! And thanks, infinite thanks and blessings for this inspiration. I would indeed like a copy of the score, and if it's possible, maybe play it with a quartet here sometime.
Sure. I am happy to send it. What's a good email address to send it to?
My email is javierdiazsantanamedrano@gmail.com Greetings, Mr. Budos, take care
Thank you. I will send the score shortly. ðŸ'‚
Awesome! Luckily i heard this piece live, it's my favorite classical piece now!
Hi Javier, Thanks for the lovely comment - I am glad to hear Luke the piece so much. Did you go to see the New Zealand Guitar Quartet in Mexico the other day? All the best!
Sorry, typo.....glad to hear that you like ....
Yeah! I saw them in Zacatecas, in the hall of Manuel Felguérez museum, and we took them to dinner in a nice enchiladas place. And the next day, the gave some classes in Sala Hermanos de Santiago.
That sounds great. I hope you had a nice time together.
Hey there Marian Budos, thank you for checking out my song "Dare the Devil".
Thanks so much Marian for the 5-stars and playlist add for "Sweet Emptiness" - much appreciated.
You are most welcome, Doug. It's a great track! All the best!
Thank you so much Marian for the 5-stars for both "Acquiescence" as well as "The Shelf" - very much appreciated. :-)
You are most welcome. Great music. Congrats on winning the 6 pack too. And thanks so much for giving 5 stars to Secret Wedding and The Passing of a Black Star. Much appreciated! All the very best!
Secret wedding... Man. @#$%ing awesome. So good. So well done. Thank you for that. N
Thanks so much, Nathan! That's very nice to hear from you. Are you keeping yourself cool in SA? Cheers, Marian
My studio is hot as all hell in this wave... Looking forward to winter for sure. I've been living off of frozen popsicles lately trying to stay comfortable! Thankfully fall is only a few months away for us. Don't imagine the summers are going to get any easier though. Might have to dig into the side of a mountain just to stay cool pretty soon!!! lolol Hope all is well. Great work again sir. N
I know, the heat is getting to my brain too. I had to remove some of my musical equipment into a cooler part of the house for the same reason. We haven't stopped having days with mid to top 30s for a few days now. It's so hard to create anything when the brain is half inflamed. :-) Thanks for the compliment again. Didi you listen to all three movements or just one? Music from this piece has been used in a feature movie and some video productions too. Keep yourself cool, man! Marian
Marion, Some people write cues. Some people write songs. Some people... Tell stories. You? You create entire universes with your music. You tell grand tales that shift with the wind and embody craftsmanship that many will study for decades to find. Yes... Marion. I listened... And I love what your imagination has cooked up. It is simply stellar sir. N
I am speechless...............Thanks so much, Nathan. This must be one of the nicest compliments I have ever received. I am honoured and humbled at the same time! Especially coming from someone of such a high caliber himself! Thank you!....
I bet it would better if I spelled your name right sir... But regardless of my poor eyesight and attention to verbal detail? I know good music. If you're not still composing its seriously a loss for us all. N
Not a problem, I am used to it. :-) I am still composing for sure. I just finished a few days ago a piece called A New York Minute for fabulous cellist and guitarist in NY Laura Metcalf and Rupert Boyd. Can we as composers live any other way? Runners get twitches if they don't run for a couple of days. I am the same. It is a part of me probably the same way as it is with you. I can see on your prolific output, it is your way of life too. BTW, I have always admired your compositions and your production value. Always top notch in every aspect of it. There are not too many people who can do what you do. And see the world through music the way you do. I hope you will help to change the musical landscape especially in movies. There is a need for a change the way I feel it and I think you are the man! Your music is unique and exciting!
One needs tools for such things... I'll earn them though. Until then? I'm nobody. Just a guy who really loves music. Makes the most of the limited gear he has. There are titans out there that could do what I do blindfolded. Nah... I'll be grateful to be a part of the show at all. I know what's out there. (Smiles.) But that's ok... I don't need to be the best at anything. Love of the music itself is enough for me. Thank you though. In every way possible today:) N
I know the world is very competitive and there is lots of talent around. But a unique and strong voice always rises to the top - like the cream in the old saying. So don't stop doing what you do. I absolutely agree, it is the process of writing music that gives one perhaps more kick than what happens to the music once it is finished. That's more or less admin. :-) Like you, I am very contented that I have the faculties to create and that I have people who want me to write for them. I hope you make it to the 'very top' of the game, though. You have what it takes. Marian
Feeling is mutual brother. Let me know if you ever need a good engineer/producer. I'll cut you a great rate. Take care Marian. Your fan: N
I will! Thanks for the offer, it will be in the back of my mind. You take care too! Marian
Marian, thank you so much for listening and rating. Also for paying attention to my ensemble site Sabla Duo.
It is a really nice album and I listened to it this morning while enjoying the nice spring weather. I also watched the two videos of you two playing. It's nice to catch up on your music. Which orchestra(s) are you playing in now? Great viola playing!!!! I hope everything is going well for you. BTW, I really enjoyed Frankfurt everyone I was there with my German friends. I haven't visited for a while now. Last time I went to see friends in Haidelberg, guitarists Helmut Oestereich and Christian Wernicke. All the best! Marian
"The Passing of a Black Star" - loved it Marian. Well developed. Favorite parts are when it enters the more peaceful/ reflective parts. Great performance! Glad you survived the electrocution.
So nice to hear from you, after a while, John. Thanks for the positive comments. Yes, I have my favourite parts towards the end of the piece too. I am glad you like it. I am all well now - thanks! I hope you are doing well too. All the very best!
Marian: Your guitar playing is phenomenal .I have played with a guitarist from the Boston pops that graduated from Berklee .You have him beat by far.Thank you for sharing your music with me. It is so refreshing.Bravo my friend. Don
Thanks so much, Don. That's a really nice compliment. I am humbled. Which songs are you referring to? :-)
The Passing of a Black Star
Ah, on this recording it is actually not me playing - it is the New Zealand Guitar Quartet. But I have a guitar quartet too (Nautilus Chamber) and we play this piece too. I play guitar two in it. There are a few spots where we need to work pretty hard for our money. :-)
Marian --the composition and execution of Passing of a Black Star are world class. I hear echoes of Tarrega, Rodrigo, and Abeniz. Phenomenal work man!! ~Jeff
Albeniz that is
Agree with Jeff. Just superb Marian. What a moving tribute to Sir Bowie!
Really a beautiful production Marian!
Thanks so much Jeff and Thierry for the comments. I am truly humbled by your generosity and at the same time I am really excited that you like the piece. I put a lot of time into perfecting the piece, so I am glad it's paid off. it's getting a good airtime in New Zealand and Australia on national broadcasters. The quartet has performed it in concerts already about 30 times in NZ, China and are heading to US, Mexico and Australia in 2018. Yes, there is definitely the influence of all the classical guitar maestros that I have played and studied in my lifetime, but there are many references to the 'Blackstar' himself from his final album. Although, it wasn't really his final album, because his No Plan EP came a year after Blackstar early this year and the track No Plan is so spooky, because it is as if Bowie is speaking from the grave. What an amazing artist he was! Left on his own term and then 'returned' the same way. BTW, his music's just reached 1 billion stream just on Spotify. What legacy! Be well both!
Thank you very much, Cyndi! You are always so generous with your comments. I really appreciate it. :-)
Great guitar playing on this Marian.Longing for home.Really refreshing.Have a good day.
Thanks so much! This piece is very close to my heart.
Thanks, Don. I really appreciate it. It's been now 21 years since the recording of this - I was much younger. :-) How is the course going???????

I'm Taking a course at the Community college not for credits. The teacher was taught by the great "Jerry Goldsmith" .Just started a month ago. Good luck with your music endeavors. Thanks for the Congrats Hope they use my Tracks.
Hi Don, Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I studied composition formally back in the 1990s at the Australian National University. Courses can be very helpful, although I found that lots relies on hard work, persistence and passion for composing music. All the theory must be put to good practice. Good luck with your studies. You clearly have a great teacher. I hope they use your tracks! Fingers crossed. All the best! Marian
very evocative of early Led Zeppelin, says my friend Ben

You are most welcome. I loved all the tracks I listened to. Your voice has a quality that makes you want to listen to it more and more. That is most obvious in the tracks with just the guitar. Is the same as when you listen to Nick Cave. Great music and lyrics too. Unique and refreshing in the see of sameness in the age of internet proliferation of mediocre music. All the best! Marian
glad you like the various different vocalists i used on these tracks you listened to. none of them are my own voice. i listened to numerous of your songs and your work is exceptional. kudos to you!
So it is a mutual admiration club! :-) Cheers, Marian
Marion Secret Wedding ~ 3rd movement Presto~ Thank you for sharing such a majestic work of beauty. A journey of Love & Joy is that not everything! ~ Abram Band Jacalyn & Dean......
Thanks, Dean and Jacalyn for the compliment. I am glad you like it. This was my first orchestral piece I wrote some 20 years ago, still with pen and paper. It was a wedding present for my wife. :-) So yes, journey of Love and Joy, as you say. All the best! Marian
Hey Marian, Thanks for the very nice note. Always great to wake-up and read a nice message from a fellow composer. Helps to set the "tone of the day", ya know. Best to you and best of luck with your music. Chet Nichols
Hi Chet, I know how that feels. Last night I just could not stop listening to your songs. One more song, I said to myself, and repeated this at least half a dozen times. There is something hypnotic about your music that keeps one wanting more. That doesn't happen too often to me. Thanks! I will be back for more! All the best! Marian
Thanks, buddy.....that is some very kind feedback..... CHet
You are most welcome, Chet. Cheers, Marian
