D'YEA Bio
As if it happened overnight, six distinguished members of the Florida music scene
came together to form the most promising group of the new century. Enter into the
world of D'YEA- a power hungry, self-assured rock band with roots dug deep in prehistoric electronic synthesis, dark and dirty metal and attitude spitting punk rock.
Add a healthy dose of old school mothership funk, southern rock swagger, 80’s break-dance rhymes and what you have is the beginning of a revolution.
D'YEA's debut album Bassstar Mission has been getting attention since completion
in 2002. Musical visionaries such as Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey (Parliament Funkadelic, Mutiny), Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More, Train) and Bill Laswell (Axiom Records, Peter Gabriel, Bootsy Collins) have all rallied around the D’YEA camp.
The album was meticulously recorded over the course of 2 years, starting out on a modest Pentium II computer in Sonic's dark apartment. Recordings were stripped and spontaneous. Tracks were cut and barely ever recut. Lyrics flowed like blood from a pierced heart. Vocals were thrown down with intensity and passion. Sonic's final mastery of D'YEA and Heinous’ lyrical ingenuity and the untouchable guitar work of Jerry Outlaw turned Bassstar Mission into a new masterpiece. This album defies convention and inspires and moves the listener to value the self. Bassstar Mission- Who’s funking you now! Within the past two years D'YEA has developed a self-styled and produced sound attempted by some, succeeded by none, until now.
The secret lies in the band’s creative process. Inspiration strikes in unusual ways and the band’s muse is the current state of the world. Uniquely, D'YEA is a band, a concept and a character. Members include Billy Wells aka D'YEA, as lead singer, Jerry Outlaw as lead guitarist, Chandler Smith as bassist, Hunter Oswald as drummer, Mike Meengs, aka Sonic, as producer and Jason Dudney, aka Gene Heinous, as rapper.
Each members' credentials are as long as a San Quentin lifer’s rap sheet.
This band is tested and proven, make no doubts about it. The energy, precision and showmanship of each member has been finely tuned over 1000's of shows in front of audiences great and small across the globe. One only has to put their ears to the album to hear the gospel, and put their eyes on the live show to see the truth.
The development of the never miss live show was no easy task when the band needed to visually deliver what Bassstar Mission aurally promises. Luckily the D’YEA crew is comprised of born showmen. D'YEA leads the way with his towering presence, distinct vocal style and kiss-my-ass attitude that screams "Rock Star". Heinous is his wired sidekick that throws down white-boy raps and infamous moves that one has to see to believe. Outlaw's guitar wizardry is a clinic on how to master the craft. Hunter's drums rumble with authority and Chan’s bass coaxes open the lowest chakra with all the subtlety of an atomic bomb. All this energy is masterminded by Sonic who guides the whole ship with vision from the Gods.

A record deal with the biggest name in the business, Sony Music, would follow. Meanwhile, Mike Meengs aka Sonic of Lux Nova was inking a record deal of his own with England based label Miramar Records. Meengs’ digital music was right on time for an audience of electronica fans that were always waiting to buy the freshest ambient, house, acid house and trip hop. His early years were spent exploring all the electronic music world had to offer with Maynard Keenan, best known for his work with Tool. From his first keyboard and sampler coupling to the current studio set up including 24 bit surround sound capabilities, Meengs is the master of all things electronic.
