The WMDs Press

"As final gift to the New York rock community, The Luna Lounge has located The WMDs."
-Time Out New York

"Despite their self-imposed "modern rock" tag, New
York City's WMDs don't stack their songs with heaps
of over-compressed distortion. This is a good
thing, as most music that modern-rock radio embraces
is so generic and processed it makes you want to
kill yourself. The WMDs favor melodies (actual
fresh ones!) wrapped in tasteful string arrangements
(also fresh). You can easily spot the influences,
such as Tom Petty, but the band wears them well and
does them proud. For example, when The WMDs do use
distortion, it's of a fine, textured variety (a la
Tom Petty). And, damn, how many bands can say they
take a Beatles influence and make something original
with it? Actually, I can only think of one - this one."
-Saby Reyes-Kulkarni

"New York City’s The WMD’s might have a name that evokes political rage but this isn’t a political band. Instead the songs are stripped down opuses about personal stories and experiences. Wrapping them in a walled in pop-rock room that’s spacious and surprisingly crafty, this demo hopefully will work its way into the hands of an important playmaker in the music industry because this band deserves to have a whole lot more attention paid to it."
- J-Sin, Editor, Smother.net

"Brian Bauers delivers his well-written lyrics with passion and arranges and plays his music with an understated maturity."
-Listen.com

"Every Song is a complete surprise... and for all you ladies out there, these boys are very cute."
-Jill Morrison WUSB 90.1 FM

“Their sound is 1962 Hamburg meets 1990 Seattle. There are lyrical, melodic moments, but they're well padded in a hard, wall-pounding beat."
-Yori Yanover, Grand Street News

The WMDs Bio

The WMDs seamlessly fuse a timeless songwriting style with a modern rock sound, delivering their music with energy, emotion and brutal honesty. Formed in 2004, the band consists of 4 twenty-something boys who each contribute to the ambiance of the group: Brian Bauers on lead vocals & guitar, Jaime Sturm on guitar, Dion Roy on bass, rounded out by Paul Amorese on the drums.

As the band name evokes, The WMDs bring a universal sensitivity directly to the forefront: blatantly confronting the fear of the unknown. Onlookers immediately feel the need to question their name. What does it stand for? That's precisely the point. With an element of mystery, they leave it up to the listener to detect the irony, humor and meaning behind the name. With a similar attitude, every song expresses a changing mood that reflects this world of situations in which we can all relate.

For such a hard-hitting name, the lyrics are surprisingly raw, emotional and sensitive; from attacking the country’s foreign policy to confronting a girl who came to NYC only to break hearts – lead man Bauers lays it all on the line. The beauty: even if you don’t listen to the story, their melodic driven rock is still way more than enough to satisfy.

With the band’s individual accomplishments combined, their resume is stacked. In addition to 8 years of performance in the city each; their credits also include professional work such as production, song-writing and session playing for names like Jojo, Gavin Degraw, Nike, AOL, Sears and BMW. They aren't shy of the big stage either, having collectively opened for acts like The Donnas, John Mayer, Vanilla Ice, Bleu and Juvenille.

Now, with enough experience in the industry to know what works – and what doesn’t; they recognize that together as The WMDs, it's finally time to take it all the way. Together, they form a mutually creative and driven craft that is catching on quickly in the Lower East Side. They have been busy, aggressively building their name, grass-roots style, from the fans up. Without fail, anyone who sees their live act comments on how obviously radio-friendly their tunes are and what a miracle it is that these WMDs still remain at large.

The recent passing of the Luna Lounge marked the end of an era for these strategically placed WMDs and the motivation to launch this project into high gear. Moving forward, the boys are set to record their forth-coming full-length debut album and will soon be embarking on a tri-state tour to further spread their ammunition.
