"THE LIFT have created a smooth, solid debut that drifts, rocks, and shimmers in all the right places."--All Music Guide. Recently THE LIFT, fronted by twins Matt & Jason Docter, was selected by Gibson guitars as one of LA's top 3 unsigned bands to showcase at the legendary Whisky-a-Go-Go. Their music has appeared on TV in Roswell, She Spies, & The 70's.
Charting commercial radio play helped the brothers' previous band, Suede Chain (Parasol Records). sell 6,000 cd’s. In Mnpls, bassist Todd Beeson toured with Matt Wilson--Trip Shakespeare. Drummer Chris O’Brien, Toronto, composed for Dr. Phil and produced an award winning drum CD, “Stark Raving Beats,” for ILIO Ent.
THE LIFT makes commercially viable alternative music that reflects their surroundings—a country at war, a confused population, and a people trying to make sense of it all--left of center enough to be interesting and close enough to the middle to explain their constantly growing fan base.

Steeped in the pop underground, classic power pop and the masters from Brian Wilson to Todd Rundgren, Road to Hana 's the sort of album that checks myriad predecessors in an exalted tribute to pop. -- Matt Schild AVERSION

Frontman Matt Docter reaches for the vocal acrobatics of Jeff Buckley ("Favorite Record") and the band does Travis better than Travis has been doing Travis lately ("Bury the Lead"). -- Adam McKibbin SUITE101.COM

...well wrought, evocative and sonically pleasing, suggesting what Radiohead would sound like if they spent their time listening to vintage Todd Rundgren and Spirit rather than... oh, I don't know, electric can openers? -- Simon Glickman HITS

Bio

When Matt Docter sang “Come on feel the noise, girls F#$% the boys!” most people didn’t notice. But Matt and Jason’s parents did. Dad called St. Louis Public Access and had the 6th graders’ first tv appearance taken off the air.

But twin brothers--Matt and Jason carried on. Their band, Suede Chain, recorded two albums for Parasol/Mud Records, in the 90’s. Based in Champaign, IL, they toured the Midwest and became popular in the local scene with bands like Hum, Lanterna, and Poster Children. Charting commercial radio play helped Suede Chain sell 6,000 cd’s.

In Minneapolis, bassist Todd Beeson played with Wood for five years and three albums. He toured with critically acclaimed Marlee MacLeod and Matt Wilson. Todd does film/tv sessions and teaches music to kids.

In '98 Matt, Jason, and Todd met in LA and started a band. Several of their songs appeared in tv shows Roswell, She Spies, and NBC mini series The 70’s.

In '01 drummer Josh Quirk joined the band. THE LIFT started recording the album Road to Hana in Nov. '02. Edgy and socially conscious the band made music that reflected their surroundings—a country at war, a confused population, and people trying to make sense of it all.

In '04, drummer Chris O’Brien solidified the line-up, replacing Josh who played on the album. From Toronto, Chris does sessions and composes for TV shows like Hard Copy. He produced an award winning drum loop CD, “Stark Raving Beats,” for ILIO Entertainment.
