BORN AND RAISED in Baton Rouge, LA, Chad Thevenot (a.k.a. Sugar Jones) serves up southern-fried indie rock -- a spicy mix of rock, pop and funk. Thevenot's second CD, "Bring Your Own Insanity," features the funky riffs of George Porter Jr., legendary bassist of The Meters.

The unique story behind the production of "Insanity" earned Thevenot a feature article in the September 2001 issue of OnStage, a national music magazine. The Washington Post lists the CD as "[one] of the most satisfying releases by area artists in 2001." Since 2001, he has sold more than 1,000 CDs regionally as an indie artist.

Thevenot is inspired by rock/pop masters, such as Beck and Jeff Buckley, and funk/soul legends, such as Edgar Winter and Sly & the Family Stone. Thevenot's second CD, "Bring Your Own Insanity," features the intoxicating riffs of George Porter Jr., legendary bassist of The Meters of New Orleans.

The unique story behind the production of "Insanity" earned Thevenot a feature article in the September 2001 issue of OnStage, a national music magazine. The Washington Post lists the CD as "[one] of the most satisfying releases by area artists in 2001."

In 1993, Chad launched Sugar Jones, inspired by the funk/soul legends, such as Edgar Winter and Sly and the Family Stone, and rock/pop geniuses, such as Beck and Jeff Buckley. In 1994, Sugar Jones self-produced their first CD, "The Push." Austin Arena magazine, wrote, "Thought-provoking songs of love and love lost, race, compassion, introspection and violence contribute a worldly consciousness to this colorful frontispiece of words and music."

Chad lives in Washington, D.C. In addition to recording and performing, and studying classical Indian Carnatic music, for the past seven years Chad has been a prominent advocate for civil liberties.
