Singer-songwriter Steve Krause’s lyrics are like vivid portraits, framed in a distinctive clarion tenor and supported by Ben Wisch’s sparkling production. Both provocative and fun, Steve’s powerful pop/folk-rock songs are packed with subtle emotion as they build from beginning to end, and are reminiscent of the sensitivity and lyrical relevance that infuses the work of David Wilcox and Marc Cohn. Wisch, producer of Marc Cohn’s self-titled grammy winning debut “Walking in Memphis”, surrounds Krause’s storylines and memorable melodies with pristine acoustic guitar, viola, strings – even a gospel choir. At the heart of each song are Krause’s luminous vocals and inspired songwriting, delivered with the clarity and emotional vulnerability that are the keys to his art.

Bio

Cinematic images define the lyrics of Steve Krause: words etched into vivid portraits, illuminated with music like old-world paintings, and framed in sonic textures of sparkling production. Steve shares these words in a distinctive clarion tenor, a storyteller's voice, a voice in tune with truth.

Steve Krause may be a solo artist, but he is not alone. A celebrated cast inhabits the songs on his debut album, Very Fine Line: Icarus, Peter Pan, and Snoopy; flying too close to the sun, never growing up, observing the cycle of changing seasons from the roof of a cartoon doghouse. "When I was a kid I loved folklore and mythology because the stories are so pure," says Steve. "You don't have all of the grays you have in real life that clutter up the lesson that's being taught. You're cleansed, and it puts you back into perspective with the rest of the world."

In Northern California, Steve, the son of a rabbi, grew up with all of the expectations imposed on the proverbial preacher's kid. His path led to Boston and Los Angeles, cities where he could explore life, feel the power of music, know the liberation of songwriting. "I was fortunate that I could go away to school and discover who I was, and exactly what I wanted out of my life. I've been very lucky." Steve performed extensively in coffeehouses around the country, and above the whir of the cappuccino machines he divined a connection – a gossamer link between performer and audience that energized and nourished him.
