About Sonny Rey

The first thing you may notice when you see Sonny Rey is the mountain of curly hair, but what you will eventually notice is the mountain of talent that lies beneath. Born in Los Angeles, California on July 14, 1986, (his father, Les Pierce, a producer, writer, composer), Sonny definitely grew up in a musically charged home. His first memories of being in the studio are with his dad and his uncle, Brian Holland from Holland-Dozier-Holland, watching as various artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Take 6, Herb Alpert, and Patti LaBelle would come to record. When Sonny was six, he began to study classical and jazz piano. He played in every school band, play and talent show possible until he realized he wanted to pursue his own career in music. At the young age of twelve, Sonny toured Japan with a well known Japanese artist playing keyboard and singing back-up. Upon his return from Japan, Sonny immediately began producing his own music. His growing interest in Hip-Hop and Pop, started to shape his style of writing and music production.

Fresh out of high school Sonny Rey joined a rock band by the name of Mardo. They toured the states numerous times and got the chance to go overseas to Europe. They opened up for bands such as R.E.M., Green Day, Maroon 5 and Smash Mouth. Being in such a rock infused environment, Sonny's eyes were opened to a whole new world of music. Sonny began looking to such rockers as Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and Prince for inspiration.

As Sonnys' skills grew in writing and producing, so did his desire for a larger audience. Eventually his hard work paid off when Sonny was given the opportunity to appear on JVCs' band Colour Clubs first CD, Disneys' Film The Prince of Egypt, and Take 6s' remix of Taking it To The Street, on which he co-produced and had a featured rap. He diversified his talents through multiple outlets including television, with a featured song on Nickelodeon's Zoey 101. Continuing in this vein, Sonny composes background music for other shows that include Americas Next Top Model, VH1s' A-List Awards, The Shot, Stylista and commercials including Bratz dolls.

With his talent, charisma and motivation Sonny Reys' future will shine on...
