San Diego

Story Behind The Song

We used to live in this 8 bedroom house in a rundown section of midtown. It was about a 2 minute walk to one of the best bars in the city, and for the two and a half years that we lived there, we walked it more nights than not. When talking about that time it always gets glorified, we were in our early 20's, the vibe was cool, the women were beautiful, the patio was "prime" as a friend of ours used to say. The reality was a bit less glamorous. I can't speak for the other 5 guys in the house, but waking up on my sleeping bag, (my waterbed had popped early one morning ages before) and realizing that my credit card balance had grown by $50 (plus tips and interest) got to be rough. But hey, that was what musicians did right? Back then, to me at least, rockstar meant musician and musician meant rockstar. Things have changed alot since then. To be honest though, I still regularly find myself out at the bars searching for something my rational mind knows I won't find there. Maybe it's just the frequency that has changed. Ah, it is the best of times, it is the worst of times. (making music, that is)

Lyrics

SAN DIEGO
I got wasted on Saturday
Broke as a joke
But still spending money
I drank all my confidence away
Tipped the bar got some food
Now it?s time to hit the hay
We tend to get this way somedays
When everybody?s broke
And we all got bills to pay
So I gotta get back to it now
And you know I know just how
Fifteen minutes of honest work in a day

I don?t know how to react to that

Stop you who hear this
And think for a moment
On the long chain
Of iron or gold
Of thorns or flowers
That would never have bound you
Conspiring to leave you story untold
Forge a link never stop to think
It brings you never
Closer to your destination
Only further from the start
Till you?ve forgot where you began
Wondering in a field of choices
Trying to screen out voices
One million puzzles and one piece
Make it fit now

I?m running you see me running
Where am I running and
Do you know
I don?t know how to react to that
