Samarai

Story Behind The Song

This tune is an ode to those who have lost the battle with the ugly side of fame and notoriety. Inspired by the poignant story of the amazingly talented Amy Winehouse and her short life. It shouts out to the machine of the music business and how it can eat a person alive before their time. Amy described herself as a Samarai, always having to defend herself. Although the song was inspired by the lack of compassion for this particular artist it could also apply to any fallen idol grist for the mill of popular entertainment.

Song Description

This song is a blues / swing/ soulful lament about addiction, loss and disillusionment. It moves from the bluesy gritty guitars and bass in verses into a full brass swing section with a modern twist and killer percussion licks. Moody emotive, atmospheric production with an eerie ghostly quality.

SAMARAI Words/Music S. Haworth c) 2021
V1
What have they done to you
The marks upon your face tell me its all true
Crack the top for a better view
I always looked up to you
Now tell me do you wanna cry
Don't thank me if you do
I won't question why
We all know you're a Samarai
Your time was always coming
Ch
Take a picture would you mister
Don't remember me this way
Why do you care about the fanfare
It's a circus with no name, a circus just a game,
just a game , just a game
V2
We all know of the bad end
Why did you run towards it
Heart so gentle
Bound to fall and fall again
Racing for the train no one left to blame

Now tell me do you want to cry
Don't thank me if you do
I won't question why
We all know you're a Samarai
You run the way you run
Your time was always coming
Ch
Take a picture would you mister
Don't remember me this way
Why do you care about the fanfare
It's a circus with no name a circus with no shame
Take a picture would you mister, would you mister
Don't remember me this way
Why do you care about the fanfare
It's a circus with no name, a circus just the same ,
just a game, just a game
V3
What have they done to you
The marks upon your face tell me it's all true
Crack the top for a better view
Oh darlin I looked up to you
tell me do you want to cry don't thank me if you do
Ur just a Samarai you had to do the things you had to do
Do you want to cry don't thank me if you do
Your just a Samarai you throw your sword
Down to the ground, down to the ground, to the ground again
Down to the ground, down to the ground, bound to fall again
