Story Behind The Song
Konya Turkey 1992...on the search for traditional Turkish music played on authentic instruments...
Konya is the heart of the Mevlevi community from whence the Whirling Dervishes come. Since it was summertime, they had all but gone, but one lone member of the orchestra remained. His name Fahreddin Acar and he plays the ney, an end-blown flute. He graciously permitted me to record him perform in their dance rehearsal space. The recording I made may be heard on this piece.
Song Description
A somewhat dark, imposing piece created primarily by the ponderous rhythm section. The title "tigris", of course is Turkey's most notable river that runs through Diyarbakir in the south-east part of the country. I wanted to called the piece by its Turkish name "Dicle", but I know that it would forever be mispronounced, so I opted for the more familiar one.
