there is an almost nostalgic mystique about alcoholism to one who is not an alcoholic... the sheer strength of will needed to accept and maintain one's addiction is overwhelming...it is even harder to confront it... the topic of addiction lends itself to creativity. it is relatively easy to romanticize and glamourize the condition because of its pathetic nature. addiction renders us helpless and reduces us to the emotional and locomotive level of a child... the concept of the "arms of the dawn" is open to interpretation by the listener...is it salvation? is it a cure? is it death? forgiveness? or something else?
