Story Behind The Song
this is the story of a Korean man of about 60+ who lives in the south of France. he wears a black suit and a bowler hat and has an air of faded affluence...he carries a rather decrepit umbrella... even when it is warm and sunny...he likes to promenade along the seaside; listen to the merry-go-round and the children playing on the beach and the seagulls crying overhead...he hums this melody as he enjoys his stroll...
Song Description
this piece is in two parts and was originally written for a trio of which i was once a part...the group (named eponymously after the geomungo player E Joung-Ju')is, alas, no longer but it consisted of a 'geomungo' (a traditional korean bass zither), guitar, clarinet and the turkish saz...we sometimes had a drummer...the first part of this piece is slow and whimsical while the second is faster and more robust...
it may be heard as one of the pieces on the now unavailable 'synnara' label cd entitled "Geomungo".
