Story Behind The Song
this is how I see my sorry ass in a couple of years time when I retire...
abandoned my childhood home and spent most of my life abroad...
no regrets, but not having a permanent home has created a difficult situation. I know you can't ever really go back "home" because that is merely a concept...so it's all time and change...
I suppose death is the only real home we shall ever know! (sounds like another song, doesn't it?....)
Song Description
a somewhat bleak look into my future...see above re: thoughts on coming to terms with the act of desertion of one's childhood home...
there is an element of concern here, but I try to retain a sense of humour, or at least, tongue-in-cheek commentary... blah, blah, blah...

Lyrics
"I'm Coming Home"
[verse 1]
...the last time you saw me
I was standing @ the gate
my boarding pass in one hand
while the other held my fate
I was leaving everything
that I had ever known
I've been gone for a long old time
but now I'm coming home
[chorus 1]
winters passed and summers withered
I have burned and I have shivered
sometimes I felt alone
but now I'm coming home
[verse 2]
at first I wrote a letter or two
to my friends across the sea
and for a while I'd sometimes find
one addressed to me
but as the months & years went by
the life that I once knew
became a distant memory
I guess my friends forgot me too
[chorus 2]
winters passed and summers withered
I have burned and I have shivered
sometimes I felt alone
and now I'm coming home
[instrumental verse]
[bridge]
all packed up and ready to go
to make a brand new start
anticipation fills me now
and a beating in my heart
I've made full circle
and I thought the I had learned
that you can only travel forward
time won't let you return
[verse 3]
so now I find that things have changed
since the day I said goodbye
the people that I used to know
have either moved away or died
I'd forgotten how the years had passed
and how you'd grown older too
and now the place that I used to call my home
is as foreign as I am to you
[chorus 3]
winters passed and summers withered
I have burned and I have shivered
sometimes I felt alone
and now I'm coming home
and now I'm coming home
and now I'm coming home
