I hold in my hand this worn down pencil
to color the shades of my days
I turn my eyes to the rain drop window
tracing a path down the damp dewy haze

my breath is catching, my body is aching
the lines on my face show how much time has taken

life is too short to be wound so tightly wrapped up in worry & doubt
life is too short to have bad dreams nightly in twisted sheets reaching out
