signal Bio

Signal- Biography

The success of a local, original band tends to be non-existent, given lack of response to original music, or the amount of work it takes to get noticed. But the persistence and dedication of the Northern Indiana band, signal, has proven that hard work and empty bar gigs can eventually pay off.

Founding members, guitarist Steve Dickson and drummer Dave Gleser, formed the band from the ashes of their original band, Zoetrope. Zoetrope soon part ways with their singer due to changes in musical direction, switched their moniker to signal, and continued on with their new frontman, Jammie Bosstel. After numerous auditions and months of searching, the quartet was completed with bassist, Josh Czuk.

The members of signal offer an extensive background of music experience and talent, each having 15+ years experience in writing, recording, and performing. Each member conveys true passion and undying dedication to their music. They are driven artists who devote a great amount of time and effort to provide their audiences with incredible, original songs. signal is constantly writing new material, trying new ideas, and maturing their sound.

Because of their diverse experience and influences, they are a band you have to hear to believe. signal’s sound is best simply described as heavy, but melodic. They have an original, driving sound and do not mirror anyone’s material, although their personal influences range from Tool to Static X, and Fuel to the Beatles.

Since their first live performance in March 2004, which was the opening slot for 90s rockers Sponge, signal has accomplished an impressive list of successes. They released their debut EP, …and so it begins, in June 2004. In promotion of the EP release, signal was interviewed and selected tracks were played on the local music hour aired on South Bend, Indiana’s rock station, 103.9 WRBR.

Less than two months after their first performance, signal gained two more opening slots for national acts; Lucky Boys Confusion (Elektra Records), and Dope (Artemis Records). signal would go on to also open for Naked Beggars, featuring Jeff LaBar and Eric Brittingham of 80s hair band Cinderella, and Belladonna, featuring Joey Belladonna, formerly of Anthrax.

Throughout the past year signal has won a number of band battles, most notably the Woodwind & Brasswind’s Annual Battle of the Bands in August, 2004. This is a remarkable title for a band, given that Woodwind and Brasswind is known world-wide as the largest provider of musical instruments.

The summer of 2004 also brought signal a trail sponsorship from Jagermeister. Upon fulfilling necessary promotional tasks assigned to the band, the liquor company will consider permanent sponsorship of signal. The band was also featured on a cable television show based on local talent.

Only four months after releasing their debut EP, signal wrote and recorded their second EP, suffer, at Tim Bushong’s T-Bush Studios in Syracuse, Indiana. Bushong is well-known for his outstanding and perfectionist work among Northern Indiana bands, but has also recorded national metal act, All That Remains. signal successfully completed suffer and held a CD release party in early December, 2004. Once again the band was featured live on the local rock station’s local music hour.

signal continues to network and stretch out into new areas and markets. They play gigs every weekend, always gaining new fans as well as new contacts. Aside from their distinct originality, another aspect that sets signal apart from many bands is their willingness to play any gig offered to them. Nothing is too small for this band. They accept any opportunity to share their music everywhere and with everyone. They are committed musicians, and their dedication and love for music shows in all they have accomplished in less than two years together.
