She’s been a singer her whole life, but Ruthie Buford didn’t try her hand at songwriting until 1997, when, after a fight with an ex, she went looking for solace in her guitar. Spurred on by a bad breakup, she wrote the gripping "Jenny’s Got Something to Say," one of her many astute observations about human relationships. "Jenny" went on to win 2nd place in the 2000 Georgia Music Industry Association Songwriter’s Showcase.

Buford has no problem being both serious and funny within the same song. "How Big Is It" won her the coveted "#1 Country Song of the Year" at the acclaimed Eddie’s Attic Songwriter’s Showcase in 2001.

An active member of NSAI, Buford's songwriting has won the attention of a slew of industry insiders, including songwriters Angela Kaset, Chuck Cannon, and Steve Seskin, as well as former KIX 101.5 DJ "Moby in the Morning."

Ruthie Buford lives in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with her husband, Mark Buford (an art director), and their kitty, Lisa.
