Bio

After a collaboration with The Brothers Hugg in THE GAY REVOLUTION, R J Hampden struck out on his own and built, layer by layer, a bivouwack of melody held up by the very drum stick he used to record the album in his Baltimore home's living-room-studio. Constant touring and grueling self-promotion have given way to his current position in the music insdustry -closer to the bottom than when he began

Hi,
I came across your track and found the structure and sonic direction quite compelling. It already aligns in some ways with what is typically considered for sync placements.
Are you actively positioning your music for licensing opportunities, or is your current focus more on distribution and audience growth?

Hi Steven,
Thank you for reaching out--I appreciate you taking the time to listen.
I'd be very interested in exploring licensing opportunities. Sync is something I've always been curious about, though I haven't actively positioned my catalog for it yet.
Out of curiosity, which track were you referring to? I only have a small number of songs uploaded, so I'd love to understand what specifically stood out to you from a structure or sonic standpoint.
I'd also be interested to learn more about your process--what types of placements you typically work on, and how you tend to collaborate with artists.
Looking forward to hearing more.
Best,
Ian

Hi Ian,

Appreciate you getting back to me, and yeah, the track I was referring to is *"You Can't Help Me."*
What stood out right away was the way you let the track breathe. The pacing, the restraint in the arrangement, and how everything builds without feeling forced, that kind of space is actually something supervisors tend to look for, especially when they need a track that can sit under dialogue but still carry emotion.
You've got a strong instinct for tone, which is honestly the harder thing to teach. Positioning it for sync is more about shaping what's already there so it fits naturally into the licensing world. And you're not alone in this, most artists I speak with are in that same place where they've got solid material, but it hasn't been intentionally aligned for sync yet.
In terms of how I work, I tend to come in from a catalog perspective first, looking at what you already have, identifying what's immediately licensable, and then refining things so they're easier to pitch, place, and ultimately generate income from both licensing and streaming.
I also stay fairly hands on with artists I work with, especially early on, just to make sure everything is moving in the right direction and not getting lost in the usual noise. Out of curiosity, are you sitting on more unreleased material in a similar style, or is what's up now pretty representative of your catalog? You can reach me on belovedsteve3@gmail.com

Best,
Steven
