Ray's love for song-writing grew as an original member of the NY band, Kangaroo Jones. The band's success in live performances from 1994-1997 led them from the bars of Nyack, New York to the studio with Dave Snider, cousin to Twisted Sister's D. Snider, to record their first demo. However, the increasing need of some of the band's members to earn their college degrees led to a parting of ways to finish other endeavors. While this was difficult, Ray continued to write while obtaining a "fall-back" business degree and a great job.

When asked about his own style of music, Ray responds with this, “There is a familiar uniqueness about it – my own, but not quite mine alone. It’s a mix of all of the tricks and subtleties of the talented artists I have grown to love and respect throughout my life. It’s almost like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and James Taylor walking into a diner and running into Matchbox20, Dave Mathews Band and Goo Goo Dolls having coffee.”
