Peter Groth was born near the vast expanse of the Great Plains; fitting imagery for the open, diverse spirit of the music he would compose later in his life. For Groth, music has always meant the ability to communicate in a unique way that touches upon the primal, spiritual, and intellectual nature that makes the human experience unique. Having been gripped from a young age by a desire to wander and experience, he has traveled extensively, and an awareness of the universal elements that tie men and women together regardless of race, religion, and status, can be found at the heart of many of his songs..

This deep connection, that which can make the personal universal, is often present in Groth's lyrics.
