Pericles Kanaris, a native of Athens, Greece, is a prolific and multi-faceted talent in the areas of singing/songwriting and film scoring and enjoys high credits in both. After completing top studies in Film Scoring and Mass Communication, he moved to New York City and gained a reputation for composing songs and original scores that are characteristically strong in evoking or supporting images. Bio

Composer/Performer Pericles Kanaris has a unique foundation for "marrying" music to picture and word, his favorite art forms and the focus of his creativity.
Born in Athens, Greece, he began his study of piano at an early age. He is the recipient of the B.E.S.T. scholarship from the Berklee College of Music where he studied voice and composition with a concentration on Film Scoring (B.Mus. - Summa Cum Laude). During his studies at Berklee, he also studied piano and composition privately with Jazz guru Charlie Banacos. He is the recipient of the Barnes and Noble Award, and the recipient of the Soren Christensen Award, both for outstanding musicianship during his presence at the writing division of Berklee.
He also holds an M.Sc. in Mass Communication from Boston University, where he studied extensively the potential of music as a medium of communication. He wrote his main master's thesis on The Communicative Nature of Music under the supervision of Roger Scruton, one of world's authorities on the Philosophy of the Arts. He wrote a second thesis on The Contribution of Nino Rota's Music to the films of Federico Fellini, under the supervision of reknowned American screenwriter Stephen Geller.
An avid lover of Greek music, in 1999 he formed the Contemporary Greek Music Ensemble which he led vocally to major concert venues in Boston and Cambridge, Massachussetts while he produced "Christmas Spirit", the songs of George Makredes, a Boston-based Greek-American songwriter, released in November 2002.
He then moved to New York City where has been composing music for Hurd Studios, the world's premier visual science agency.
In October 2003 he was among the composers chosen by the Greek Organizing Olympic Committee to compose the theme for the musical identity of "Athens 2004", Olympic Games communications campaign.
His choral piece "Genesis", recorded at the Hit Factory, NY, was the music score to the animation "The adventures of Sam & Bob", a finalist at the Electronic theatre of Siggraph 2004, in Los Angeles, California and a nominee at this year's US Comedy Arts Film Festival, sponsored by HBO.
His song "Liberty" reached the top ten finalists of the 2005 International Acoustic Music Awards.
Sponsored by the National Greek Television in New York, he is the recipient of the prestigious O-I Visa (Category: Outstanding Artist) from the American government. He is the founder of Admiral Sounds, an independent music production company that holds studios in in New York, Athens and Los Angeles.
