They say that in the worst of times, in the most dire of situations that often the most important, most miraculous people can arise from the ashes. Coming off of a year in which the art of hip-hop was accused of being deceased and done with, this Brooklyn born emcee has come to stake a claim on this decimated landscape and deliver listeners back to the golden age of hip-hop, with an album so dedicated to resurrecting the heart of the culture that the title itself tells all that needs to be told: "...In Retrospect" The artist of reference is N.Y.C., short for Never Yet Contested. This Flatbush native has been patiently maneuvering within the industry, preparing to leave his initial mark on the world of hip-hop.

Never Yet Contested Bio

Birthed with a surname that equates greatness (Jordan), you can say he was born with the hunger. His talents have been on display for all to see, (http://trustatement.com) ranging from Pandora's Internet Radio, WAMU Theatre, to the Stage of Nokia Theatre, Never Yet Contested embodies the drive to become great. He captivated an audience at the very beginning stages of his career, with a performance at the Legendary, B.B. Kings Blues Club & Grill, leaving to a standing ovation. The performance was of such magnitude, N.Y.C. was granted an appearance on MTV's Direct Effect, as a featured artist, which he used as a launch pad for his debut album, "...In Retrospect." With the help of up and coming super-producer, J.J. Brown of 5G Productions (http://5gproductions.com) (Gym Class Heroes, Mr. Cheeks (Lost Boyz), Ludacris), it was inevitable that Allhiphop.com, Get Signed Magazine, and Brooklyn Cable Access Television (BCAT), would be lining up to profile this young talent. However, raw talent is something that most rappers in the game possess, but a true hip hop artist, that's a totally different ball game.

The difference between a rapper, and an artist, can be summed up in one word, Versatility. The ability to appeal to the masses, and be true to you, something Never Yet Contested embodies completely. One wouldn't have to look far for N.Y.C.'s versatility, with his current hit, "I Can't Take It/True Statement feat. Baldi & Suburban Graffiti," in heavy rotation on MTVU's Music Video Programming. "I Can't Take It/True Statement", depicts the many frustrations with today's version of Hip-Hop, which N.Y.C. is looking to change. Within his mission to bring the element of Hip-Hop back to its origins, N.Y.C. isn't afraid to step outside the box, similar to hip-hop giants, Kanye West, Common, Snoop Dogg, & Lil Wayne. N.Y.C. followed his single with two releases from his next project, "The Melting Pot." This project is exactly what the title says, mixing all flavors from the club, to your local neighborhood hangout. Songs like, "Say Yea" and "In Technospect", are sure fire club hits! But, it's his brand new single, "Hi-Definition," that is sure to be the talk of pop culture. Hi-Definition has that, "Song of the Summer," sound, and is sure to be a highly requested song on radio stations.

Whether it's igniting the stage, or lending vocals to a television show, N.Y.C. does it all. There's no gimmick, no corporate sales formula, just pure unadulterated hip-hop, and an artist begging for the world to wake up. It's not as much of an album as it is a declaration of revolution; a revolution armed with creativity, lyrical prowess and captained by an emcee with a vision to follow.
