"A shepherd leading his flock with song" is how Michael Card described the music of Michael Anthony Milton. Mike is a pastor who writes songs as he ministers to people. Milton's songwriting is influenced by a variety of others, including Neil Young, Dan Fogelberg, and Michael Card. The songs, often personal and reflective, are nevertheless universal as they explore our human experience. The music is warm and easy, sometimes tinged with foot-tapping bluegrass, or country rock, but always aimed at the heart.

Michael Anthony Milton

In 2007, Dr. Michael A. Milton was called as the President and Professor of Practial Theology for Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to this, he was the pastor of the historic First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the twelfth in 161 years. Dr. Milton is the author of the books, Leaving a Career to Follow a Call: A Vocational Guide to the Ordained Ministry, Authentic Christianity and the Life of Freedom and Discipleship in Babylon. His latest book is called What God Starts, God Completes and is available at his web site: http://mikemilton.org

He has also written numerous popular and academic articles and published in such periodicals as Preaching Magazine, The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, The Christian Observer and World Magazine. He has been featured on national radio and television programs such as Truths that Transform with Dr. D. James Kennedy, The Coral Ridge Hour, and Moody Radio’s Money Matters.

Dr. Milton served sixteen years in the business world and was also a top secret Navy linguist. He interned under D. James Kennedy at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and after seminary, planted two churches: Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas; and Kirk O’ the Isles Church in Savannah, Georgia. He also founded Westminster Academy Christian School in Overland Park and was the administrative head and a professor at Knox Theological Seminary. A graduate of Mid America Nazarene University (Kansas) and Knox Theological Seminary, in 1998 he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in theology and religious studies from The University of Wales (UK).

Dr. Milton’s personal story of moving from orphan and prodigal son to understanding God’s grace and receiving His adoption through Jesus Christ forms a frequent motif for offering Christ’s healing to a broken generation. Often his sermons are illustrated with songs that he writes, sings, and performs with guitar.

In addition to his pastoral work, Dr. Milton holds a commission in the US Army Reserves as a chaplain, a ministry that he continues. Serving on several boards and active in a number of civic organizations, he also remains involved in preaching and teaching in churches, conferences, and seminaries. Dr. and Mrs. Milton and their son reside in the Chattanooga community.
