Born in San Francisco a few days before Woodstock, and a few weeks after the first man walked on the moon, Mike was brought up in Northern California’s “Bay Area”, the greater majority of time in Berkeley. Raised by music lovers, Mike learned of the singer/songwriters of the time from his Mother, and learned the pure enjoyment of a heartfelt chorus, heavy or light, from his Father. Writing "songs" since he was five and learning music on his own; his piano artistry stems in a natural, botanical progression from a single seed; E.L.O.’s “Evil Woman”; the hook of which was shown to him on the family piano, by an older friend, at the age of nine, and unwittingly paved the road to...? Mike's infinite repetition and variations on this Am, G, F progression, although directly responsible for extremely elevated stress levels around the home, developed into a unique, soulfull and personal style of artistry.
Mike has been in and out of bands since high school with various local and world-renowned musicians, both living and dead. Spectacularly overlooked as a solo performer, Mike has managed to gain little or no notoriety whatsoever.
Having experienced the light and darkness of the urban Generation X’s quest for purpose, Mike’s songs range from comic to tragic, but always retain the questions, challenges, outrages and hilarity of a soul in search of the “truth”- or at least a little attention.
Still a Bay Area resident, he performs at various venues wherever a piano- that is reasonably in tune- can be found.
