Joe Connorton's songs are based on his lifelong love affair with music.
At the age of six, even though he was forced to play seemingly endless variations on "Chopsticks" and such, Joe still wanted to learn more. He loved everything about music.
His desire to learn and play the music of the bands and artists he idolized - The Beatles,Led Zeppelin and Bowie -
led him to play the "air broom", later to be replaced with his first semi-hollow body.
Joe later married and it wasn't until the birth of his daughter that his musical desires were rekindled. Suddenly, just playing wasn't enough. Giving life to his own music became paramount.
The ideas and songs came out of nowhere. Some autobiographical. Some character-driven.
Memorable and thought-provoking, his lyrics compliment his deep, expressive and sometimes gritty vocals.

This music has been a long time coming. Listen to it and agree it was worth the wait.

Get On Up - Lyrics

Get On Up Joe Connorton

When I awoke, I was flat on my back.
Then someone spoke;they went right into their attack.

They said, “Boy, what’re you doing down there ?” “You shouldn’t be down on your knees !”
“You should be back on your feet.” “Now, I’m begging you, please.”

“Nobody said that life was made to order,
sometimes you’ve got to take some time to reflect.”
“You’ve got one or two of us in your corner,
that’s all you’ve got any right to expect.”

“So, get on up,
until the boy stops swinging.”
“Just get on up,
until that bell is ringing.”

I was in a haze, I tried to clear my head.
I expected sympathy,I got slapped back, instead.

They said, “Boy, what’re you doing down there ?” “You shouldn’t be down on your knees !”
“You should be back on your feet.” “Now, I’m begging you, please.”

“You know you’ve got to get up in the morning.”
“You only do it ‘cause you’ve got no choice.”
“Things hit the fan, without any warning,
that’s how we separate the men from the boys.”

“So, get on up,
you’ll hear a clap like thunder.”
“Just get on up,
I won’t let you go under.”

When Dealt A Certain Hand-Lyrics

When Dealt a Certain Hand Joe Connorton

Keep the curtains drawn
at the top of the stairs.
Take a look around
and see if somebody cares.
Given the circumstance
it was beyond the pale.
Given half a chance,
I’ll soon be setting sail.

You always told me
there’d come a day,
I guess I’ll just be on my way.

When dealt a certain hand,
you give the devil his due.
Try to understand,
it’s something that I must do.

Dust off your evil eye,
you’ve got a perfect right.
I guess you’d be remiss
to not put up some kind of fight.
Every now and again
you have to take out the trash.
Though in God we trust,
as for you, I’ll take cash.

You always told me
there’d come a day,
I guess I’ll just be on my way.

When dealt a certain hand,
you give the devil his due.
Try to understand,
it’s something that I must do.

Through a darkened glass
we view the road ahead.
All anyone can ask
is the chance to make their own way.
I’m making my own way.

Artist-Short Description

Joe Connorton

Joe Connorton's songs are based on his lifelong love affair with music.

At the age of six, even though he was forced to play seemingly endless variations on "Chopsticks" and such, Joe still wanted to learn more. He loved everything about music.

At his 16th birthday party, his fondness for the melodic as well as the dissonant even
overshadowed the charms of those females in attendance, whose demure smiles and
Clearasil-free good looks were no match for the sonic clarity of his brand-new guitar amp.

In college, even stairwell dousings of water couldn't dampen his desire to learn and play the music of the bands and artists he idolized - The Beatles,Led Zeppelin and Bowie. However, when he joined his first rock band, the tuneful idealism he held so dearly took a jolt. The guitar-hero image he had imagined for himself as a teenager while playing air-guitar in front of TV's Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, suddenly seemed off putting.

Joe later married and it wasn't until the birth of his daughter that his musical desires were rekindled. The creation of a life seemed to touch him subliminally. Suddenly, just playing wasn't enough. Giving life to his own music became paramount. Creation, he found, equaled satisfaction.

The ideas and songs came out of nowhere. Some autobiographical. Some character-driven. All closely related to his love for music and its connection with his life. Memorable and thought-provoking, his lyrics compliment his deep, expressive and sometimes gritty vocals.

This music has been a long time coming. Listen to it and agree it was worth the wait.
