Jen Stevens is a musician/pianist/singer/songwriter based in the North East of England. Classically trained, with a Degree in Jazz, she is an experienced and passionate live performer. Her voice has been described as 'inimitably beautiful,' and her songs as 'incredibly powerful and moving, with heart-wrenching lyrics.'

"I've been playing piano since I was very little, and singing for as long as I can remember. I started writing songs as a means to tell stories - I don't like to sing about things I don't know about or can't relate to, so it makes sense to write my own music, and sing about people, experiences and things that mean something to me. If I can reach out to just one person and touch one heart at a gig or through a recording, then I've accomplished something."

The calibre of acts that Jen (and her band, the Hiccups) has worked with speaks volume about the quality of music that she produces and how strong her work ethic is.

Today it's the regional semifinal of the UK Open Mic competition at the Journal Tyne Theatre, a venue I've always wanted to perform at. I don't usually do competitions - I've been gigging professional for nearly 16 years now, and this is only the second one I've ever entered! I'm very nervous, but even if it goes no further than today, at least have performed on that stage :)
