Jan Randall has scored over 700 television productions in North America for the
likes of Discovery Channel, NFB, and CBC. Recently he completed an episode
of David Suzuki's "Nature of Things" entitled "Gone Sideways". Recognition
includes AMPIA's prestigious "Best Music Award" for the NFB documentary
"Lost Over Burma" which was narrated by Christopher Plummer.
Jan has been Musical Director and Composer for a number of major world
events including the 2001 World Championships in Athletics Opening and
Closing Ceremonies which was broadcast live to over four billion people.
He has also worked with internationally known legends Otis Rush, Amos Garrett,
Gary US Bonds ,Spencer Davis, Sha Na Na, and Bo Diddley. His credits include
collaborations with megastars Mike Myers, Dame Edna, Catherine O'Hara, and
Bob Newhart.

Oct. 11 CD Release Party!
The Haven Social Club in Edmonton is hosting a concert to celebrate the North
American release of Jan Randall's new CD of
original songs "Good Fair World." Appearing
with Jan will be guitar virtuoso Jamie Philp
and a number of special guests.
"Good Fair World" is a culmination of 30
years of song writing and music composition. On a
recent interview on CKUA Radio Jan explained why he was
thrilled about this release- "I felt obliged somehow to the songs
themselves to put this out- as well as to the music, events and people that
inspired them."

Biography

Jan Randall has dedicated his life to music as a Composer, Performer, Producer, Recording Engineer, Musical Director, Orchestrator, Conductor, and Lyricist. His skills include playing piano, guitar, electric bass, harmonica, accordion, singing, and midi programming. His experience encompasses a vast array of trends, cultures, and tastes.

Jan has credits as music composer for over seven hundred broadcast productions. They include Lost Over Burma (NFB/ news documentary), Wilderness Journeys (Discovery Channel/nature series), Geek TV (ACCESS/comedy series), Naked Frailties (drama/feature film) and Purple Gas (comedy/ feature film). His work has garnered two AMPIA awards for Best Composer/ Musical Score.


In live theatre Jan has served as Music Director for musicals, comedies, dramas and special events. Productions include Billy Bishop Goes to War, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and Jesus Christ Superstar. The National Ice Theatre of Canada commissioned works including Tangled Ice Webs, A Midsummer Night’s Ice Dream, and currently Poetry in Motion which will premiere at Edmonton’s 2006 International Fringe Festival. He spent three years with Toronto's Second City, appeared on SCTV, and collaborated with Michael Myers, Catherine O’Hara, Ron James, Richard Kind, and Ryan Stiles. He has improvised music for comedy groups including Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie, Chimprov, and Theatre Sports.

Jan composed ceremonial music for the 1996 World Figure Skating Championships broadcast live to over 50 countries. This commission led to a position as Music Director for the 2001 World Championships in Athletics. For those ceremonies he composed and produced music for a cast including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, seven thousand dancers, a dozen feature acts, and a one thousand voice choir. The event was broadcast live to over four billion people worldwide.

Jan has performed with Bo Diddley, Otis Rush, Amos Garrett, Sha Na Na, Spencer Davis, Sam Lay and Gary U.S. Bonds. He has provided orchestra arrangements for Ben Heppner and Robert Guillaume. As a singer songwriter he has been featured at the Hovel, the Regina Folk Festival, and the Sasquatch Folk Festival.

This year Jan returns for his eleventh year as musical director for the Banff World Television Festival. There he has performed in tributes for John Cleese, Bob Newhart, Dame Edna, Martin Short, Steve Allen and Kelsey Grammer. Jan has served as board member for the Canadian Guild of Film Composers since 2001.
