Bio

Singer-songwriter Ira Marlowe writes “four-minute movies”-- finely crafted, highly visual songs that stand up to repeated listening. A dynamic performer who mixes wry humor with unusual passion and energy, he recently won the “Songs Inspired By Literature” contest and is featured on a benefit CD alongside Tom Waits, David Bowie, Roseanne Cash, and Steve Earle.

Here’s what critics said about Marlowe’s most recent CD, “Save the Day”.

“You might detect simiarlities from R.E.M.to Sting to James Taylor but the singular voice of Marlowe penetrates with well-blended subtleties, making for an altogether curiously charming album, both openly vulnerable yet proudly self-contained.
Listen after listen, it continues to grow on you.”

“Marlowe’s unique songwriting talent is moody, gorgeous, lyrically complex.”

In Spring of 2004, Ira debuted “How to Write a Song”—a “one-man multi-media musical featuring songs, monologues, and interactive video—which ran for five fantastic weeks at San Francisco’s Off Market Theater. SF Chronicle called it “Hilarious” , while the SF Examiner said, “Funny and inspiring”. The show is currently being reworked with plans for a revival in 2005, possibly in New York or Los Angeles.

This year has also Marlowe’s first foray into educational childrens’ songwriting. His songs appear
