Probably not a movie. Retail, I think. But thanks, Daniel.

Ingvi,
How have you been? If they don't select "The Image of You" they're insane. It's beautiful piece and I love those cool bossa nova chords. Has anything happened to you musically or otherwise since we chatted last? Did I tell you one of my compositions, You Need a Wife (instrumental) will be in a Christmas movie? The movie is called Letters at Christmas which I assume will be out during this upcoming Christmas season. I fear that it's a made for TV movie however. Otherwise, things are fine in Philadelphia except for crime as I'm sure you're aware of. Anyway, I hope to hear from you. Again, one of my bucket list is to visit Bobby Fischer's grave then maybe we can hit a jazz club soon after.

Hi Daniel. - Congratulations on the movie deal. I'm working on an album; Jazz, Swing, Shuffle, Latin, etc.. twelve vocalists, Icelandic lyrics, but we'll have an instrumental version of all the tunes. I decided not to be completely idle while I'm waiting to croak (or shift to the other side). - Purchased your book, But Is He Jewish...and read it. Funny stuff, but being Jewish seems to be a special condition (Woody Allen, Philip Roth, you and other writers), so some of the stories were a bit "out" for my taste, if you know what I mean, but overall fun.

Thanks, Dan. I like your big sound. We are the same age. I've also been involved in lot of things besides music. For 45 years I was an acquisition-librarian at the City Library in Reykjavik. That was my main job. I was a book reviewer for ten years, a music critic (Jazz, AC, etc) for a while (last century), and I've written and published two crime novels and one short story collection.

I think we were separated at birth. We share a lot. Besides musical composition, I've written 6 plays and 5 full-length musicals. I also perform stand-up comedy in the Philadelphia area and recently published a book of Jewish-themed short stories. You can see all of this on my website www.danielwolfmusic.com I've also traveled extensively (taught English in Japan for 10 years), divorced twice, and prefer to see my girlfriend once a month. Unfortunately, I lost quite a few friends due to Convid, but I don't care. We, artists, need little human contact, don't you agree?
Anyway, I love your jazz pieces. Do you write alone or do you have a collaborator? As you may know, Irving Berlin couldn't understand how two people could write a song so I hope you also write independently. Anyway, thanks for listening to my stuff. We're going back into the studio to finish The Kennedys score. I'm only afraid that the woke mob will demand that the Kennedys be black.

I listened to your stand-up performances and liked the deadpan attitude. In my catalog are four albums by JJ Soul Band (all on Spotify), JJ or John (from Oxford, UK) was a collaborator; lyrics, vocals and music, although I wrote most of the music. He passed away 2020. I've collaborated with lyricists on my Icelandic albums cause I only sometimes write lyrics. I also like to work with certain producers/arrangers, mostly one who also writes big band music, which leads me to ask: Do you write those big arrangements yourself (and they did seem to be "live")? I guess they are they from the musicals.

Daniel Wolf

I don't do the arrangements. It's done by a man named Ed Etkins who also arranged Adam and Eve-the first musical and David. To be honest, I compose on the guitar and Ed does the full orchestrations from my mistake prone lead sheets. YEs, I enjoy stand-up a lot, but I don't see that going anywhere except as a hobby. Please buy my book (But is He Jewish?) and see how I've incorporated a lot of my routines into short stories.
By the way, I Thank Him (rock) was just selected by a company looking for religious tracks and Lost Without You (vocal and instrumental) was chosen by a company looking for blues. Wish me luck. Dan

Your work method is similar to mine. I compose on the piano, provide a demo and a chords sheet (if asked) to the arranger. In JJ Soul Band arrangements were more or less co-work of members of the band. - I haven't had much luck with submissions; a bundle of songs with a publisher that caters to retail, etc., and a bit more. Often had songs "under consideration", but no more.
I have already ordered your book. Look forward to reading it. One of my books, The Ninth Step, was translated into English (great translation). You can purchase it (if you like) from Amazon.com. But to read a wee bit about the book (the only review) and the author, you have to check the Amazon.co.uk.
But don't buy it from the Brits, it costs way too much in GP (I've written to the publisher about it).
I wish you luck with the selected tracks.

How's this for luck? "You Need A Wife" was selected for a movie called Letters at Christmas. In fact, the song was sent to ASCAP in order to receive royalties. Needless to say, "my heart soared like an eagle" (Little Big Man). So I'm waiting all fall and winter for the movie and it was never released! It costs 3 million to make and had a few veteran actors (produced by Dean Kane who was once a Superman). I hope it will be released next winter.
Yes, I'll buy your book, and let's agree to comment on Amazon. All I can say is thank God my parents advised me to get a marketable skill(teaching ESOL). I'd certainly suffer had I only decided to be an artist. By the way, one of my heroes is Bobby Fisher. I want so much to visit his grave in Iceland. Do you live near his stone? I hope to visit within the next few years.

I just checked your book. I'm sorry, but I think 35 pounds is a bit too pricy and I prefer not to read it on Kindle. It hurts my eyes after a while.

I hope the movie will be made in the end (with your song in it). But so it goes too often, I guess.
My book costs $19.21 on Amazon.com and £8.99 at the publisher's website (https://www.shieldcrest.co.uk/prod uct/the-ninth-step-by-ingvi-thor-ko rmaksson). Just beware of the Brits.
I had nearly forgotten about this translated book. But because I mentioned it to you, I contacted the publisher, and it's possible that something will be done to arouse more interest, contact reviewers etc.
- I have zero marketing skills, which is quite a handicap when you're the songwriter/publisher/record company, publicist, etc.. I used to write music to modern Icelandic poetry, but not at all in the way of Jazz v/ spoken word or anything arty-farty (and also with "ordinary" lyrics written to some of the songs). It was some jazzy AC with a bit of Latin and Folk thrown in, performed by well known Icelandic singers and musicians, but not quite pop material so the albums didn't sell much, but they are at least all alive and well today on music sites, so I'm not unhappy with my old catalogue. - https://open.spotify.com/artist/0Uj TW7IRziiJv9ufd3Xlpl
The instrumentals and some of the the English-vocals tracks have been licensed quite a bit, mostly to compilations aimed at retail. That has happened through Audiosparx.com. Everything they take on is permanent (for ever) non-exclusive publishing.
I live in Reykjavik, which is not far from Bobby's resting place; one to one and a half hour drive. I could take you there, no problem.

Ingvi, I will certainly come someday to see you and Bobby's resting place. Poor guy, later in life he became The Flying Dutchman. God bless your country for taking him in in the face of unrelenting US government threats. I also have zero marketing skills. I've spent way too much promoting my book. I have four lovely reviews but unless I get a movie or TV deal I'll continue to make about 2$ a sale. Have to chat later. Today is my mom's first anniversary of her passing. She made it to 97 but my moron brother thinks I killed her because I refused to give her the lethal injection, I mean the vaccine. I certainly hope you didn't take it. Anyway, I'll visit her today. Chat later. Dan
