Rain - Bio

Rain
Singer/songwriter

On April 13, 1984, a ball of talented energy was born in Norwalk, CT. This spherical bundle would bloom into a multifaceted individual who can choreograph, act, model, write songs, draw, design, and sing! Joanna “Rain” Raphael is gifted in all performance arts, to say the least, and over the years of her life she has developed and sharpened her talents into skills. Music is Rain’s outlet for expressing her growing pains. She has been singing publicly since she was eight years old.

Rain has a unique soulful, jazzy vocal style. Her laid-back humility combines with her honest lyrics to uncover human relationships on a realistic level. The maturity of her songs belies her youth. Also, Rain’s big voice belies her slim and petite stature. Since 2002, Rain has been dedicated to pursuing a career as a major recording artist. She has written literally dozens of songs, and is ready to produce her debut album. She has an extraordinary work ethic and a desire to travel the world relentlessly in an effort to make her career global.

Like all great artists, Rain knows that her success will be based on hard work and sacrifice, beyond what the average person can give. All great artists share one thing, an ability to define themselves in a new way. Rain not only defines herself – real musicality, a stylish charismatic personality – she is creating a new category of music. Part R&B, part hip-hop, part classic soul, in equal measure. Rain’s music offers something fresh, interesting, and compelling to music-lovers everywhere. While the music industry scrambles to find the next big thing, the right image, and the latest craze for what music should be; strong songwriting remains the number one skill in the industry. Rain wants to be known for providing a great time, with great songs.

Growing up Rain witnessed the negative effects of substance abuse in abundance. The tainted relationships in her immediate family serve as a direct reflection of the deceit, neglect, trauma, and pain that excessive use of drugs and alcohol create. Her trials and tribulations throughout her childhood also provided Rain with insight and maturity. Rain is sanguine about her childhood, saying:

“The most beautiful things are created in the rain; but are only acknowledged in the light of the sun. So, yes the storm will pass, but more importantly it must take place… stay humble and appreciative of the strength one is given after enduring the most inclement storms of life!”
