Hitman Blues Band

Russell "Hitman" Alexander is a veteran New York blues player. He has performed at clubs and venues ranging from after-hours dives in the Alphabet City section of Manhattan (back when even the police wouldn't get out of the squad cars) and late night bars in Harlem, to the Royal Ball for the Prince of Malta (Metropolitan Club, NYC) and the Quadcentennial Ball for the Prince of Spain (The Intrepid, NYC). He has also performed at the Smithsonian (Washington, D.C.), and in clubs and at private parties all over the East Coast.
Hitman has had three successful tours of the U.K. (2004, 2005, and 2006), and one in Europe (summer of 2008). He played at numerous clubs and events, including the Great British R&B Festival at Colne, the Eel Pie Club, The Limelight Theater, and many others.
Hitman says, "Over the last twenty five years, I've been fortunate to have played with great musicians, in great venues, and with fantastic acts". This includes Johnny Copeland, Lavette Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Coasters, The Ink Spots, and Whitney Houston.
He has also been a regular performer with top "casual" orchestras throughout the New York area, including Peter Duchin, Lester Lanin, Bob Hardwick, Alex Donner, Steven Scott, and many more. This has led to an unusually wide repertoire, ranging from Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Zeppelin. As he puts it: "Armstrong to Zappa, 1915 to 2007."
"The blues is an international language, but it's also one that crosses time. Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Guitar Slim, Texas Alexander, all are just as relevant today as when they recorded. Human nature hasn't changed, and everybody needs the blues so they know they're not really alone, no matter what's going on."
