Grigory Smirnov is a New York-based composer of chamber, orchestral and electro-acoustic music. Working mainly in a contemporary classical idiom, he tends to combine a new lyricism with modern rhythms in his works. Grigory Smirnov is also a pianist who actively performs classical, contemporary and improvisation music.


Born in Novosibirsk (Siberia, Russia) Grigory Smirnov is currently finishing the Master of Music degree in composition at The Juilliard School where he studies with a one of America's most prominent composers Christopher Rouse. Before coming to the United States, he studied composition with the distinguished Siberian composer Yuri Yukechev at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory (2000-2006) and piano at the Novosibirsk Music College (1996-2000).
