Made up of Ant on vocals, Jon on guitar, Mark on Bass and Chris on drums, the band initially got together purely for the love of writing and playing music after previously all being in other bands. Through these four members, a variety of influences have been bought to the table encapsulating many aspects of alternative and rock. The band soon realised that they had stumbled upon something special. Not trying to imitate or play a particular genre, the band just play whatever feels right at the time. This gives the band a unique and diverse sound that is reminiscent of the ‘Seattle’ grunge of the early nineties but in no way derivative.

Gauge biography

Gauge is a guitar driven alternative rock band with a grunge edge from the Lichfield / Walsall area’s of the Midlands that ‘reel out blistering riffs, raw vocals and dark stories’ (Overplay 2006).

The band recently had their first self release with Can I Say? which reached number 21 in HMV's top 100 downloads for that week, number 2 in the rock downloads section.

The band have also been working with MAS records to help with development and exposure, recently recording some new material as well as performing at the phantom power event in Stourbridge. More information can be found about MAS at www.mightyatomsmaher.com.

Formed early in 2005, a couple of line up changes later the band consists of Anthony Hoult on Vocals, Jon Bradley on guitar, Mark Faulkner on bass and Chris Yates on drums. Each of these bringing a wide range of musical influences to the table which when combined, make up the unique sound that is Gauge. Playing live since early 2005 and recording several demos’ the band signed to a small independant record label in 2006. During it’s time with this label, the band recorded the song Drunk again which was due for release early in 2007. It soon became apparent however that the label could not fulfill their promises so in the spring of 2007 the band decided that it was time to move on.

Not allowing the disappointment of the split with the label deter them, the band were quick to formulate a new plan and decided to ‘go it alone’ with a single release. This route has not been without it’s ups and downs and seemingly endless delays, the band now feel that they are at the stage where they can make an impact on the music community.Following the release of the single, the band have been concentrating on reaching a wider audience and building on past achievements with the aim of promoting the band and improving potential single sales. With songs that the listener can relate to and outstanding live performances that are not to be missed, the band manages to engage and captivate the listener from first note to the last and with big but realistic plans, the future seems bright for these grunge rockers from the Midlands
