Fire up Mary is a four piece folk/acoustic band from Sussex in the South of England. We focus mainly on original material and arrangements of traditional songs from all around Britain.

Vocalist and songwriter-Rosie Hodgson, 18 from Midhurst; Guitarist-Will Groves, 18 from Camelsdale; Bassist-Sam Garne, 18 Ambett, 18 from Camelsdale.
Rosie has been writing for about 4 years, and we've all been playing individually for at least that long. We started the band in January 09 for a one-off gig and we had so much fun we thought we should carry on.
We gig mainly around the Midhurst area of West Sussex, an exciting exception being our recent visit to Monto Water Rats, London in March to support two time Mercury Prize nominee Eliza Carthy.

Live and Unsigned 2010
Fire up Mary competed in Live and Unsigned, and have reached one of six national Area Finals. They performed in the penultimate round of the competition but despite being at least one of the judges favourites, didn't manage to get to play at the O2 arena in London. C'est la vie!

How would you describe your music? What are the main influences?
Our music as a band is predominantly folk/acoustic but with a bit of pop thrown in. Our drummer Loz's first love is heavy metal however, and Rosie was brought up on traditional folk. Sam and Will's music tastes are generally more socially acceptable, but the allure of folk has proven too strong for them, with recent additions to their music collections including artists like Seth Lakeman, The Battlefield Band and Kate Rusby.

Our first EP 'Tracks'
Recorded by our friend and musical genius Lisa Covington who wrote with Squeeze back in the day, the EP has four of our original songs on it. We're working towards recording a full length album over the summer which will hopefully be available on itunes towards the end of the year. We'll keep you posted.
