Words make you think a thought, music makes you feel a feeling, but a song makes you feel that thought . . . The concept that music can make a person identify with something so abstract is what has driven Drew Fortson to create music over the past eight years. Songwriting has given him the ability to articulate the trials and joys which are common to most while refining his talent and pursuing his passion. Drew will release his debut album The Apprentice and the Ghost in October 2006. This original blend of acoustic pop-rock and folk music is entirely his own and his honest lyrics and catchy melodies will draw any listener in. The tracks on the CD range from up-beat anthems to mellow confessionals that speak of loving and losing. The Apprentice and the Ghost
Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought –This idea that music has the unique ability to help a person identify or relate to something that ordinarily wouldn’t be explainable is what has driven Drew Fortson to create music for the past eight years. Drew feels that songwriting has given him the ability to explain the successes, trials, joys, struggles, and experiences that life has dealt him in an artistic and meaningful manner, while all along refining his talents, following his instincts, and pursuing what he loves to do.
While it has been said that most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us, Drew has made it his mission to make sure that does not happen to him. Although only a small audience has been fortunate enough to discover drew at this point, it is now that he is finally ready to pursue his passion full force and perform with a more demanding tour schedule. With his college days behind him, Fortson appears ready and willing to do what is necessary to stay worthy in a scene filled with talent and obstacles while performing under his debut effort, the apprentice and the ghost.
Recorded in Upland IN., with the help of several talented friends and artists, the apprentice and the ghost begins Fortson’s acoustic singer-songwriter journey with dramatic lyrical depth and an exciting melodic adventure. Influenced by those who have come before him (Chris Carrabba, Denison Witmer, Sufjan Stevens, Jesse Lacey), Drew attempts to fuse a new breed of acoustic pop-rock and simple folk music. Songs range from exhilarating and fast paced odes to being young, youthful, and full of promise to mellow, folk inspired, honest confessionals dealing with the harsh realities of loving and losing.
In the artist’s own words, “It turned out to be a very relationship themed album; but I didn’t sit down with the goal of writing about the hardships of maintaining relationships. It more or less shaped itself out of situations and issues that I was dealing with at the time. Every line in every song means something to me, yet they can all be interpreted and understood differently, according to anyone who listens to them. I tried to paint a portrait of honesty and disappointment; of dying and rebirth; and what came out was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.”
Drew Fortson’s Debut Album, the apprentice and the ghost will be independently released this coming October 2006 and will be available for purchase online and in select stores.
