Doing Thangz was born Daniel Scott Taylor, at appoximately 10:35 p.m., September 30, 1975. He was raised an only child and his mother, Dinah Reynolds a single parent. By the summer of 1980, Dinah had married Michael Washington, a business major from Baltimore, Maryland. He took Daniel in as his own and began to show him how to dance and entertain people.
When Daniel turned ten years old, he entered a local talent show for young boys and placed first in his class, performing "Da Ha" by the Duke of Rap. He always bragged to the other children in his neighborhood that he would be famous and on TV one day. His caseworker, Angeline asked him in a weekly session what he wanted to be when grew up and Daniel replied, "I am going to be a famous entertainer." Soon he was envolved in a lot of dance activities and in 1988, moved to Englewood to live with his Godparents from Harlem, NY.
