Bio

Dodd Ellsworth is an extremely versatile musician who has been delighting audiences in the New York tri-state area for many years. Originally pursuing a career as a jazz instrumentalist (piano and saxophone), Dodd began focusing on singing and songwriting in 2002. Since then, he has been performing his original songs at many of the area’s top musical venues, including the legendary Bitter End and CBGB in New York City. A notable highlight was opening for jazz/blues legend Mose Allison at The Towne Crier Café in Pawling, New York.

Dodd has spent many years developing his formidable musical skills. In addition to his training at Middlebury College and New School University, he has studied privately with world-class musicians Sal Mosca and Lawrence Feldman. Dodd has had plenty of opportunity to develop his talent in real-world situations, having played over 1,000 gigs since his first professional job at the age of 16.

Dodd’s artistic tastes span a wide range, and his music reflects that diversity. During his performances, listeners will hear elements of jazz, blues, pop, rock, and bossa nova. Dodd describes his music as “thinking man’s pop” -- sophistication and intelligence combined with infectious melodic and lyrical hooks. It is not uncommon for listeners to leave his performances humming tunes they’ve heard for only the first time.

On stage, Dodd displays a natural warmth and articulate wit, both of which make the audience feel included and at ease. Dodd is equally adept at performing solo (playing keyboards and guitar) or with his band, which features rising guitar star Gil Parris. Dodd completed a 5-song demo in 2004 and is now gearing up to record his debut release.
