CHOBERIBU is an increasingly dated slang term that rose out of Japanese youth culture in the early 1990s. Roughly translated to English, CHOBERIBU means “ultra very blue,” or “so very sad.” Without the translation you might not know it refers to the depressed. Enter CHOBERIBU… the band! Actually, CHOBERIBU is officially one individual; current Echo Park, California resident Deimon Gurosu who has spent the last ten years playing bass in mediocre garage bands and assembling sound collages. CHOBERIBU is for the most part a marriage of the two, with Deimon providing guitar, voice and electronic sequences. The CHOBERIBU sound flows comfortably from avant-guitar assault to minimalist techno. It is not an electronic band with guitars, nor a rock band with electronics, it is a new genre of music that has been coming into it’s own with the help of contemporaries BLONDE REDHEAD, POSTAL SERVICE and THE NOTWIST among other post-SONIC YOUTH 1980's kids.
