Newly independent after 2 label deals in Japan, Mala Waldron is a jazz/soul vocalist, pianist & songwriter. Born of 2 jazz pianists (most notably her father, Mal Waldron), Mala grew up surrounded by jazz music & its culture. She also was influenced by her older brother's love of R&B. Starting with classical piano at age 7, she would later imitate her father's recordings in an effort to learn how to improvise. Years later, Mala and her dad would do concerts and record a CD in Japan entitled "He's My Father." That album was followed by her debut solo release, "Lullabye." Now, the songstress is excited about her 1st domestic release, "Always There" which contains 10 originals (plus her explosive arrangement of "Light My Fire"). This CD has been licensed by Columbia Music (released Nov. 22) in Japan featuring musicians: Miriam Sullivan (bass), Steve Salerno (guitar) and Michael T.A. Thompson (drums), plus 2 bonus tracks!
