Darragh McGann - Irish Lyrical B

Darragh McGann - Irish Lyrical Baritone

Darragh McGann hails from Cobh, Co. Cork and has been singing for many years both in Cobh and the East Cork area. In recent years he has received wide acclaim both for winning local and regional singing competitions but also through his exploits as a champion Public Speaker with JCI - Junior Chamber International.

As well as being a former runner-up in the JCI World Speaking Competition, Darragh has also held lead roles in stage shows such as Philadelphia, Here I Come staged in Thurles Co. Tipperary and in Jesus Christ Superstar staged in Carlow.

In 1995, Darragh got his first real break when he was hired to be Stand-In and Double for the late Marlon Brando during the filming of the comedy movie "Divine Rapture". While the movie itself was never completed due to financial difficulties, Darragh received great advice from "The Godfather" himself. While singing one evening on the set of the movie in Ballycotton, Co. Cork, Marlon Brando suggested to Darragh that he should consider recording some music and taking a chance. Now, some thirteen years later, Darragh has taken this advice from a true legend to heart and with a great sense of joy he presents this album to you.

Following the well intentioned advice from Mr. Brando, Darragh enrolled in Voice Coaching with the late Maeve Coughlan at the Cork School of Music and from there he has been in great demand singing at Wedding, Funeral and Liturgical Services.

While providing a taxi service in his native Cobh, Darragh built up a reputation as the "Singing Taxi Driver" and featured in the All Ireland Talent Show regional final in the South and has appeared on RTE's afternoon television magazine programme "Seoige" where he was presented with the challenge of both learning and performing the Irish National Anthem. Under the mentorship of Internationally Acclaimed Irish Soprano Cara O'Sullivan, Darragh performed The Irish National Anthem at the commencement of the St. Patrick's Day Festival in Westmoreland Street, Dublin before a crowd of almost 50,000 people gathered for the Annual St. Partick's Day Parade in Ireland's Capital City.

It is with immense joy and a huge sense of accomplishment that Darragh presents this album to you. He hopes you enjoy both the singer and the songs he is proud to present.
