Vogts Sisters Bio

"Hauntingly Gorgeous...Angelic Voices." Frank Gutch, Jr. - No Depression Album Review

The Vogts Sisters' love for music began in church and at backyard family gatherings listening to old-time cowboy ballads and country tunes, which grew into a genuine admiration for bluegrass, folk, and Americana music.

Touring throughout the year in and around Kansas, the young musicians offer graceful performances, blending timeless music with sweet sister harmonies. A few of their musical influences include Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Gillian Welch.

My Own Dixie (March 2015), their first all-original album is a collection of ten songs, including award-winning Ballad of a Love Miscast. All of the tunes on this album will stand up quite well to outside material, highlighting the heart and depth of talent in this artistic duo. Their debut album, Old Time Noise (Fall 2012), offers a mix of old-time ballads with three original songs by Maggie that blend a depth of heartfelt emotion with honest compelling lyrics.

Maggie was named the 2014 Folk Division Winner in the Indie International Songwriting Contest, for her song, Ballad of a Love Miscast. Two of Maggie's songs were also selected for the NewSong Showcase at the 2014 Walnut Valley Festival (Religious category-winner; Love category-alternate winner)

The Vogts Sisters won grand prize at the 2013 Bluegrass and Chili Festival singing competition in Claremore, OK and have performed in and around Kansas at festivals and events including the Kansas State Fair and the Kansas Sampler Festival.

In 2012, the girls won first place in the folk ensemble competition at the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship in Lawrence, KS, and were invited to perform on the Kids Acoustic Stage at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. They also held two auditorium concerts opening for Kentucky 31, and Jimmy Fortune/T Graham Brown.

Maggie graduated college in December 2013, and Abigail is a 2015 high school graduate. Despite their young age, the girls have a highly developed sense of who they are and what they represent.

Thanks so much, J Nelson. We recorded this at Hall of Fame Recording Studio in Neodesha, KS with the Eichor family as musicians from Tulsa. They did an awesome job on relating to our songs. Be sure to check out our latest album, Homeward--which we produced and performed ourselves. http://www.vogtssisters.com/ 1
