Terry Herald is a composer and classical guitarist whose accomplishments include the orchestral score for the award-winning PBS Special Air Force One: the Planes and the Presidents, and Fantasie on Danny Boy, a work for two soloists and five antiphonal flute choirs, which was commissioned as a tribute to Sir James Galway. Rise Above, scored for chamber orchestra, was commissioned for the finale of the 2009 Lexington Bach Festival. Mr. Herald's original score for Journey to Justice was released on RGM Records in 2008 to critical acclaim. A wide selection of popular chamber music works by Herald has been recorded by Musica Mundi, a five-piece ensemble for which he performs on classical guitar.

Mr. Herald also conducts orchestras for guitarist Earl Klugh, and serves as music director for Canadian jazz flutist Alexander Zonjic.

Terry Herald Bio

Terry Herald's professional career has been spent exploring a breadth of musical idioms, from Renaissance through Contemporary, composing for a wide range of genres including chamber, chorale, and orchestral music, while incorporating jazz and world music influences in his works. He has served as music director for guitarist Earl Klugh as well as for flutist Alexander Zonjic, arranging, orchestrating and conducting for numerous concerts. His career as a composer began in film scoring and has evolved over the years into the orchestral/concert areas in which he now concentrates. He is currently exploring the genre of scoring for video games and his work was recently featured in the video at the Youmacon Convention highlighting all the new up and coming video games.
After earning Bachelor and Master Degrees from Wayne State University in music, Herald join the faculty of Wayne teaching a variety of courses including music theory, arranging and orchestration. He is currently on staff at Oakland University where he engineers all sound recordings in Varner Hall as well as teaches courses in the history of film music, sound recording, and accepts private composition students. He maintains a robust recording schedule at his studio in Oakland Twp. where he engineers recordings for artists needing a state of the art facility in which to record.
Herald's accomplishments include commissioned arrangements for the Detroit Symphony's Civic Orchestra, the Lexington Bach Festival's current signature piece which celebrated their 10th anniversary with Rise Above, Warren Symphony's 40th anniversary celebration which premiered On Greenstone Island, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony's 350 piece combined orchestra performing Grand Design, and Fantasie on Danny Boy for five antiphonal flute choirs in honor of Sir James Galway. His movie scores include Air Force, the Planes and the Presidents and Journey to Justice featured at the Munich Film Festival. Television productions include CBS Sports, ABC's NFL Monday Night Football, the Olympics' Up Close and Personal series, NBC's Dateline, the Award Winning PBS series, Bob's Jobs, and Nickelodeon's Mr. Wizard series. Other compositions and arrangements have been published through Litter Piper Press and Concordia Publishing House
