Steve was first signed by Florence Greenberg of Scepter Records to sing/play on "Winchester Cathedral" ("The Random Blues Band"). Steve jammed with The Blues Project,Paul Butterfield, Blood Sweat&Tears,
Genya Ravan, David Clayton Thomas, The Chambers Brothers,and Jimi James & The Blue Flame. Steve performed live at CBGB's, The Village Gate, Village Vanguard, Bitter End, The Other End, The Underground, The Nite Owl, Reno Sweeney's & The Bottom Line. Known for his percussive right hand and independently running left hand bass lines, Steve played keyboards on many sessions as a studio musician. As a BMI affiliated songwriter, Steve had an international hit with "Will You Be My Lover" recorded by Maxine Nightingale for U/A and performed live by Samantha Sang. Steve performed three winning original entries live at The Bottom Line in N.Y.C for the New York State Songwriters Festival. Ten of Steve's original songs were produced by Tony Camillo (known for "Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Knight and The Pips). Years later these recordings were released in 2001 on the www.mp3.com website as "Steve Fields Revisited". This cd remained the number one best selling cd in all categories for more than six weeks running. Steve recorded/produced several original gospel/soul and r&b styled songs at Retromedia Sound Studios in Red Bank, New Jersey. Joining Steve were Antwan Michael, Dorothy Moore, Cynthia MacCray, Chayna Wilson and Alison Benus, all members of United Choir from Hightstown, New Jersey. in 2010, Steve released ten more originals from his song catalogue.
